Franklin Pierce University is seeking an enthusiastic, self-starter individual to join the team in the Center for Academic Excellence as a Full-Time Coordinator of Student Accessibility Services.

This candidate will evaluate and facilitate documentation to determine eligibility of academic, residential, and dietary accommodations to students.

Duties also include developing workshops and presentations for students, faculty, and staff, serving on committees and task forces, and confidential record keeping.

Encourages staff awareness of current developments in learning disability research relevant to the activities of the Center.

While this position is based in Rindge, it includes the coordination of accommodations at all of Franklin Pierce University’s centers.

Essential Functions of the Position :

  • Evaluates, facilitates and assists students with access to accommodations, study strategies, and self-advocacy training.
  • Work closely with others in Academic and Student Affairs staff to develop and support appropriate technology and programs which meet the needs of students requiring services.
  • Maintain current information regarding state and federal laws and regulations as well as the best practices of other universities and private employers concerning the rights of persons with learning disabilities and ways of providing reasonable accommodations to students with learning disabilities while maintaining program performance standards.
  • Maintain membership and active involvement in state, regional, and national organizations related to the activities of the position.
  • Actively participate with faculty, administration, staff, students, and parents to develop and enhance the academic experience for students with learning disabilities.
  • Maintain appropriate records to evaluate the progress of students utilizing services and the success of those services as provided to them
  • Develop, maintain and ensure written materials and other information for dissemination to the University community and appropriate external constituents are readily available
  • Develop and implement internal measures and / or reports which inform the university administration of the status of ADA compliance and opportunities for students with learning disabilities.

Experience and Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years working in a similar capacity at a university / college or high school level required.
  • Master's degree with 3 years working in a similar capacity at a university / college or high school level preferred.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting and working to implement academic accommodations;

higher education setting strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of and experience in implementing Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act as applicable to post-secondary education.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with assistive technology as appropriate to college students.
  • Demonstrated experience working with students with learning disabilities, Asperger's, and attention- deficit / hyperactivity disorder
  • Demonstrated understanding of learning theory, cognitive psychology, and developmental psychology theories as they relate to traditional and non-traditional students.

Skills :

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office-Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access
