The Executive Director of EBSCO Community Impact

To further enhance these crucial efforts, we are searching for a candidate to fill a new role, Executive Director of EBSCO Community Impact.

The Executive Director provides overall leadership and general management for the daily operations of EBSCO’s charitable giving, including strategic direction, program development, operations, personnel management, and external / community relations.

The Executive Director represents the company to the public and is active in the philanthropic community. Reports to : The EBSCO Giving Committee Chair.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following :

Governance, Committee Administration & Support : Supports the operation and administration of the charitable giving committee by advising and informing members, and by interfacing between committee members, family members, and staff.

  • Responsible for implementing committee guidance in consultation with company leadership, advises the chair as required on operating the committee using best practices of corporate charitable giving and oversees committee functions and reports.
  • Interprets and applies policies, guidelines, and grants management as applicable to the corporation and committee.
  • Designs, reviews, and maintains operational policies, practices, and guidelines of the committee, periodically presenting to the committee and management for input and approval.
  • Arranges and attends committee meetings / activities, prepares agenda, oversees material development, implements company directives and communicates with committee between meetings.
  • Supports committee continuity and development of leadership capacity within the committee.

Financial Responsibilities : In consultation with company management, communicates and tracks the annual giving budget and reports the contributions made.

Ensures timely payout of approved grants and makes certain that accurate up-to-date data is entered in the Foundant database.

Program Development & Operation : Responsible for implementing the company’s mission / philosophy and its annual grantmaking goals / objectives within approved guidelines.

  • Administers the company’s grantmaking program, including preparation of agendas, grant proposal review, site visits, and other matters requiring committee or company action.
  • Oversees evaluation of funded programs, monitors progress of approved grants and special programs, and makes periodic reports to the committee and company leadership on funding effectiveness.
  • Leads the committee in strategic planning and establishes objectives based on goals and budget considerations. Provides guidance to the committee in selection of new areas of interest or initiatives.

Administrative and Human Resources Management : Supervises day-to-day operations of the charitable giving program.

  • Manages and enhances systems that allow for efficiency and smooth functioning of operations, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Develops system to employ, train, mentor, supervise, and evaluate all staff positions, interns, and consultants.
  • Creates an atmosphere of growth, learning, and improved performance for the committee.
  • Facilitates relationships and communication between Communications, Human Resources staff, committee, and grantees.

External / Community Relations : Assures the company and its mission are consistently presented in a positive manner to relevant stakeholders.

  • Maintains a high professional profile in the field of philanthropy by participating in events, conferences, and meetings that are designed to strengthen and promote the company’s engagement in the philanthropic community.
  • Attends briefings, symposiums, and meetings to remain informed and up to date about the nonprofit and philanthropic sector and relevant local, state, and national issues.
  • Participates in and initiates partnerships / collaborative opportunities with other grantmakers and nonprofit organizations.
  • Supervises the preparation of reports, content on grant management system and website, and all other communications and outreach activities.

Education / Training / Experience :

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required
  • 3+ years of philanthropic and foundation management experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Grants Management / Donor Management software. (Foundant experience is a plus.)
  • Remote office environment. Some in-office required for meetings.
  • Travel Required
  • Community Involvement Required
