Job Description and Duties

ASSISTANT STATE ARCHEOLOGIST (PERMANENT INTERMITTENT) SIERRA DISTRICT / SIERRA GOLD SECTOR / EMPIRE MINE STATE HISTORIC PARK

The reporting location for this position is Empire Mine State Historic Park in Grass Valley, CA. This position will work under the supervision of Cultural Resources Program Manager.

Under the supervision of the Cultural Resources Program Manager, the Assistant State Archaeologist will support the Cannabis Watershed Protection Program (CWPP)-funded parkwide archaeological survey and inventory of the 3,760 acre South Yuba River State Park.

The Assistant State Archaeologist will act as project liaison for the department, serving as point of contact for consultants and coordinating site access.

Daily work locations will vary throughout South Yuba River State Park.

Training and Development Assignments may be considered

This position is designated as not telework eligible.

This position may work up to 1500 hours per year / in a 12 consecutive month period.

This position requires a valid Class C driver’s license. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application.

Working Conditions

  • Typical conditions include a standard office setting, use of a computer and other office equipment in a climate controlled environment.
  • This position will also be required to work outdoors which may include inclement weather, freezing temperatures, elevations up to 3,000', rain, heat, and wind.
  • This position will also be required to work around and on bodies of water.
  • This position will also be required to traverse heavily vegetated parcels.
