Summary :
The Director, Proteomics Core (Director) oversees the day-to-day operations of the Proteomics Core. This oversight encompasses a broad range of Core scientific, operational, and budgetary functions, as described below.
The Director serves as a scientific and technical proteomics resource for the Institute’s investigators. The Director receives scientific input from the Core’s Scientific Director (faculty member with expertise in proteomics-based science), and receives operational guidance from and reports to the VP, Scientific Resources.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Supervise daily operations of the Core facility, including project design and scheduling, sample and process tracking, quality analysis of results, instrumentation troubleshooting, and billing for services
Develop standard operating protocols and determine metrics for quality assessment and track quality of proteomics services
Develop and implement proteomics data analysis tools to improve data mining and interpretation
Process samples using (2D)LC-MS / MS and provide proteomics data analysis including advanced statistical data mining using R Bioconductor packages
Interface with faculty, staff scientists, postdocs and grad students in support of their projects, and with the staff of the other SBP Core facilities to develop and implement collaborative interdisciplinary projects.
Provide proteomics expertise in project design.
Initiate and / or support grant proposals that support the facility and the projects of the facility users. Track publications and grants enabled by the Core facility’s resources and services.
Evaluate, implement and optimize existing and emerging proteomics protocols, technologies and applications, in collaboration with facility users, with vendors, and with colleagues at similar facilities at other institutions.
Assure equitable access to Core services for users, maintaining a transparent queue that provides appropriate priority to Cancer Center members and SBP users.
Provide technical training on proteomics techniques and data mining for both facility staff and users. Interact with researchers to identify potential Core support of their proposed projects and on project design.
Market the resources and services of the Core facility by giving talks on campus and at scientific and technical conferences.
Give tours of the Core facility. Organize Core facility hosted seminars and workshops. Maintain the Core facility website with the latest information regarding services, instruments and prices.
Oversee maintenance of facility equipment and infrastructure and act as primary liaison with equipment manufacturers and support vendors.
Monitor and order supplies and create invoices for Core use.
Set pricing for services and create annual Core facility budget. Report on the financial and technical status, usage and performance, achievements, scientific impact, challenges, and future plans of the Core facility.
Provide these data as appropriate to the Core Scientific Director(s) and VP, Scientific Resources.
Work with the Associate Director, Cancer Center Administration and the VP, Scientific Resources to assure financial sustainability of the Core.
This includes budgeting and balancing available resources from the Institute, grants and chargebacks with Core operating costs, recommending adjustments when needed.
To enhance workflow, project tracking, and to enable financial analysis, the Director (along with Core users) will utilize the iLab Core management system, assuring iLab data entry including billing takes place in a timely fashion.
Ensures emergency back-up systems are operational and serves as a key point of contact for infrastructure and equipment emergencies and for disaster plans.
Education and / or Experience :
Requires a Ph.D. degree in the biological sciences or a related field and significant postdoctoral experience working in the area of Proteomics, or an equivalent combination of education, training and / or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been attained

Compensation :
The Expected Hiring Range for this role is from $114,000 - $142,000 annually.
