Summary :
Assists in the oversight of the daily operations of the Pharmacokinetics Lab, directing the workflow and distributing tasks to the Research Laboratory Technicians, assuring that all areas of the Lab have appropriate coverage;
that samples are accurately processed and frozen in an efficient and accurate manner; and that all activities are accurately documented.
Ships specimens per PPD and other safety regulations.
Essential Functions
- Oversees the technicians in the blood and urine areas assuring smooth and efficient workflow.
- Prevents / minimizes the occurrence of protocol violations.
- Ensures safety requirements are adhered to when handling and processing
- samples. Packs and Ships specimens to clients and / or other labs as needed, ensuring safety and security per PPD policies and other safety regulations.
- Performs all duties of a blood harvester, urine monitor, and urine process as needed. Audits Blood Harvest Logs to assure that all study samples are handled correctly per protocol specifications and / or PPD procedures.
Reviews logs for clerical errors and proper completion. Verifies and documents the presence of all blood and urine samples as each study interval ends.
Acts as Lab liaison on specific studies as directed by supervisor. Interacts with Study Teams, Project Managers and other non-lab staff to assure that protocol requirements for the lab are being followed.
Occasionally communicates with clients, explaining the various PK lab functions and activities.
Maintains records of completed temperature and maintenance checks for all laboratory equipment. Determines equipment and supply needs.
Monitors and evaluates lab processes, identifying areas for improvement and making recommendations for alternative systems to improve performance quality.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
Education and Experience :
- High / Secondary school diploma or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification
- Technical positions may require a certificate
- Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to at least 2 years) or equivalent combination of education, training, & experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Working Conditions and Environment :
- Work is performed in a clinical environment.
- Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms.
Physical Requirements :
- Frequently stands, twists waists, squats, and bends neck for 4 6 hours per day.
- Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.
Ability to make precise coordinated movements, of the fingers to grasp and manipulate objects.
- Frequent mobility required.
- Occasional crouching, stooping, bending and twisting of upper body and neck.
- Moderate lifting (or otherwise movement, carrying, setting, and placement)of 15-30 lbs. with a maximum lift of 35 lbs.
- Ability to access and use a variety of computer software developed both in-house and off-the-shelf.
- Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

Shift Type :
Position requires open availability due to the frequency of laboratory procedures. Applicants must be willing and available to work all shift types including Shift 1 (Day), Shift 2 (Evening) and Shift 3 (Overnight).
