BASIC FUNCTION :
The purpose of this position is to determine student eligibility for financial aid and administer all phases of the financial aid process;
to include, all federal, campus-bases, and alternative financial aid programs. Assists in performing electronic data exchange between Howard and the U.
S. Department of Education.
NATURE AND SCOPE :
Internal contacts include students, staff, and faculty.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES :
- Performs needs analysis, financial aid packaging, budgeting, counseling, and problem resolution for financial aid applicants.
- Exercise professional judgment according to federal regulations, U. S. Department of Education, and University guidelines.
- Processes electronic data using appropriate technology and software.
- Reviews and edits electronic applicant and other data.
- Checks and validates accuracy of Pell payments using information from Records, Student Financial Services, the U. S. Department of Education, and all federal regulated sources
- Reconcile duplicate Pell and Direct Loan disbursements.
- Resolves Pell Overpayment awards (POP) and Multiple Record Reporting (MRR) between reporting institutions.
- Processed entrance and exit interviews for direct loan recipients; in addition to, clearing related holds.
- Import and export records via EdConnect ISIR records, Master Promissory Notes (MPN), Entrance / Exit Counseling, Pell disbursements, Loan disbursements, reconciliation reports via COD, and etc.
- Coordinates, completes, and maintains records to comply with the requirements of the U. S. Department of Education.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
CORE COMPETENCIES
- Functional knowledge of federal financial aid delivery systems, program legislation, and needs analysis procedures; to include, but not limited to electronic data exchange functions and related software applications.
- Ability to objectively evaluate each students’ eligibility for assistance.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computers, associated software, and Banner.
- Functional knowledge of and the ability to apply appreciate counseling techniques.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with competency in oral and written English.
- Ability to establish and maintain a harmonious and effective work relations with students, staff, faculty, and the general public.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :
Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience in financial aid processing, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Experience with Direct Loans, Pell, reconciliation, award processing and Banner
