ROLE OVERVIEW
The Senior Accountant will play a key role in evolving the Melissa & Doug finance organization and will report directly to the Accounting Manager.
Melissa & Doug is headquartered in Wilton, CT and is a member of the Spin Master group of companies. This role will be hybrid out of the Wilton office.
The Senior Accountant will be heavily focused on Melissa & Doug day-to-day accounting functions, while offering ad-hoc support to Spin Master as needed.
This role is currently enabled by Oracle Cloud Financials, with an expected transition to SAP in the near future. They will be an important business partner to FP&A, HR and other functions.
In some cases, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for building brand new accounting processes and procedures, overseen by the VP, Finance.
Responsibilities :
- Maintain several accounts and post journal entries across various areas of the General Ledger, for both US and UK company entities
- Own and execute technical accounting topics, such as ASC 842 leases
- Participate in the monthly close process to deliver timely and accurate monthly financial statements
- Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations
- Prepare ad hoc financial reports and analysis as requested by M&D and / or Spin Master management
- Work closely with various functions and business owners to drive key system implementation initiatives and improvements
- Execute key business process and general IT controls to minimize business risk and ensure regulatory compliance
- Assist FP&A in monthly reporting to ensure the proper reporting of transactions within entities, accounts and departments
- Be heavily involved in the quarterly and annual financial statement external audits, as well as provide support for internal audits conducted by Spin Master
- Be a key member of the implementation team for SAP when the team transitions from Oracle Cloud Financials
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned
Qualifications :
- Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience; consumer goods experience strongly preferred
- BA / BS in Accounting, Finance or related discipline required
- Strong knowledge and experience with complex ERP systems strongly preferred (e.g. Oracle, SAP)
- Licensed CPA, MST and public accounting experience preferred
- Passionate about leading change and solving problems
- Experience executing effective internal controls
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Self-motivated with desire for continuous improvement
