The Archdiocese of St. Louis strives to teach and share our faith, serve others, and foster unity throughout the St. Louis area.

Once a part of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary's campus, the Cardinal Rigali Center in Shrewsbury, MO is today the headquarters and curia (governing body) for the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

Job Summary

Specifically, the CFO serves as financial administrator of the Archdiocese and is responsible, under the authority of the Archbishop, to exercise careful vigilance over the administration of the goods of the Archdiocese in accordance with the plan recommended to the Archbishop by the Finance Council.

Job Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Archbishop and serves on the Archbishop's Ministry Team Advisors.
  • Supervises Finance Office, Shared Accounting, Internal Audit, IT, Central Purchasing, and Building / Real Estate / Facilities, totaling about 200 staff.
  • Oversees financial studies, plans, budgets, forecasts, and analyses to aid Archdiocesan management in decision-making.
  • Directs and reviews processes, procedures, and internal accounting control systems, ensuring accurate recording and safeguarding of Archdiocesan assets and liabilities.
  • Oversees the preparation of annual and periodic consolidated financial statements and provides quarterly and year-end financial reports for the Finance Council and The St.

Louis Archdiocesan Fund.

  • Manages the annual budget for over 80 entities.
  • Oversees implementation and evaluation of Archdiocesan financial policies and practices.
  • Coordinates work with external auditors and financial consultants.
  • Serves on the Archdiocesan Finance Council and its committees (excluding the Audit Committee), is CFO and Trustee of The St.

Louis Archdiocesan Fund, and attends meetings.

  • Participates in other committees and task forces as needed for Archdiocesan financial affairs.
  • Is an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors of Catholic Charities and other boards as designated by the Archbishop.
  • Represents the Archbishop as Trustee of the Tilles Fund.
  • Represents the Archdiocese in financial matters for both Archdiocesan and non-Archdiocesan entities.
  • Performs tasks as directed by the Archbishop or requested by the Finance Council.
  • Assists the Archbishop with managing the temporal goods of other public juridical entities under his authority (Canon 1276 1).

Knowledge & Experience Requirements

  • College degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA and / or MBA preferred.
  • Excellent business, financial, and management skills with at least ten years of executive-level experience.
  • High level of independent thought and initiative.
  • Active member of a recognized professional society.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and financial software; willing to learn Archdiocese-specific software.

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing, with integrity, honesty, and a strong commitment to the Church's mission.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding Archdiocesan affairs and finances.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with the Archbishop and key leaders.
  • Capable of motivating and leading a diverse staff of approximately 200.
  • Works well with lay-led boards and committees.
  • Comfortable in a matrix management organization.
  • Excellent writing and oral skills.
  • Willing to enhance professional and technical knowledge.

Relationships Requirements

  • Minimal travel, primarily for meetings with parishes, offices, and agencies.
  • Membership in the Diocesan Fiscal Management Conference, with required travel for annual meetings.

Resources for Which Accountable

Assists the Archbishop in managing the temporal goods of the Archdiocese.

Working Conditions

Primarily an office environment with occasional travel.
