Job Summary
The On-Call Snow Plow Driver assists the Department of Public Works with snow and ice removal during the winter months (approximately mid-November through mid-April).
Required days of work can include weekdays, weekends, and holidays. This is an on-call position where the employee is paid only for actual hours worked.
Employees will receive overtime pay for hours worked in excess of 40 hours per week and for hours worked on the following holidays : Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day & New Year's Day.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Employees shall be proficient in winter maintenance : ability to plow with a single / tandem axle plow truck with front and wing mounted plows while operating a spreader and dump body for salt application along with chloride applicator.
Respond to snow and ice events within 30 minutes of the call-out.
- Be able to use a front-end loader to properly load a dump truck.
- Routine servicing and light maintenance of equipment.
- Required to work weekend or evening hours as directed.
- Understanding and carrying out verbal and written instructions.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers and other Village departments.
- Candidate must be a team player and able to undertake assigned tasks in a respectful, safe, efficient manner.
- This position requires all duties to be performed in conformance with Village policies as described in the employee handbook and adherence to state and federal safety policies and standards.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid commercial driver's license (Minimum : Class B)
- Experience with the operations of various construction related equipment for winter street maintenance
- Must be able to pass background check, drug test, reference check, and driving test.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Job consists of a combination of sitting, standing, walking, and driving
- Employees will be exposed to cold, wet, and slippery conditions.
- There will be exposure to dust, noise, and chemicals.
- Frequently subject to work outside of a normal work hour / week schedule as weather or circumstances dictate, e.g. snow storms, rain / wind storms, or other events requiring response to protect the public as a result of natural or man-made circumstances.
- Employees will need to be available to report for work with very little advance notification.
