Seaward Services is seeking a Seasonal Able Bodied Seaman for our Maine State Ferry operation.

About the Opportunity :
The Able Bodied Seaman will support the safe operation of a Maine State Ferry Vessel in a fashion that will promote and maintain the utmost integrity and the highest standard of customer service within the industry, while being responsible for performing general deck duties, assisting the Mate, Engineers and standing watch as needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
- Participate in the safe operation of the vessel within the legal requirements of the USCG and other pertinent regulatory agencies under the supervision of the Mate
- Assist the Mate with the operation and maintenance of the vessel in accordance with Seaward Services' Caretaking Operations Manual
- Actively participate in vessel security duties and monitoring as required
- Assist, under the direction of the Mate, with the safe mooring, docking of the vessel in a variety of weather and water stage conditions
- Maintain a safe deck and work area free of gear drift, debris and equipment stowed properly
- Assist in loading and unloading of vessel supplies and equipment
- Assist with passenger and cargo loading and unloading
- Assist with routine maintenance, painting and clean up as instructed by the Mate
- Participate in drills with Marine and Non-Marine crew as directed by the Master or supervisor
- Defer to, and act in support of the Master in the event of a real or simulated emergency
- Routinely report the condition of vessel, and personnel; unusual developments; and repair progress to the Mate
- Stay aware of guest service and safety issues and provide regular and dependable feedback to the Master by way of the Mate
- Maintain a safe vessel, monitor safety issues and report hazards to the senior officer immediately
- Follow the onboard chain of command and duties assigned under the Watch Quarter Station Bill
- Stand watch and perform other duties as required
Requirements & Qualifications :
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- United States Coast Guard Merchant Mariner’s Credential (MMC) with AB Special or higher
- Valid United States Passport
- Must be able to acquire and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
- Copy of DD Form 214, if Veteran Status
- Two (2) years’ experience as a seagoing mariner, demonstrating the ability to handle increasing levels of responsibility
- Excellent career record in the marine industry
Salary : $350 / day + per diem
