Summary of Job Duties : The purpose of the Research Assistant position is to support oversight of general laboratory operations and help advance the research program of Dr.

Robert Eoff. The Research Assistant will report directly to the Principal Investigator Dr. Robert Eoff in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

The applicant will be responsible for performing standard biochemical assays, molecular biology techniques, cell culture, general laboratory organization / maintenance, and performing experiments as requested by the supervisor.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience in protein expression / purification, bacterial and mammalian cell culture, Western Blots, PCR, Flow Cytometry, and microscopy work.

Qualifications :

Minimum Qualifications :

Bachelor's degree PLUS (3) three years of experience working in a biochemical / molecular / cellular biology lab.

Special knowledge, skills and abilities :

  • Be proficient to work with cell culture and standard molecular biology techniques; Be willing to learn new skills and techniques.
  • Be able to keep organized laboratory records and notes.
  • Be Microsoft proficient
  • Must be have excellent communication skills.

Additional Information :

Performing research experiments, keeping experimental records

  • Performs research experiments including biochemical assays, molecular biology procedures, preparation of recombinant proteins, cell culture, Western Blots, PCR, Flow Cytometry, and microscopy work.
  • Keeps descriptive and accurate records (both electronic and hardcopy) of all experiments performed, data entry and analysis.

General laboratory maintenance

  • Placing orders (obtaining quotes, filling and submitting ordering forms, tracking order status and receiving orders).
  • Maintaining records of laboratory inventories (reagents and supplies).
  • Maintaining records of laboratory safety procedures and policies and responding to laboratory audits.

Training new laboratory personnel

  • Training of new employees and / or students in basic laboratory techniques.
  • Overseeing staff compliance with the University, State and Federal guidelines for the safe operation of a laboratory.
  • Performing related responsibilities as required or assigned by the supervisor

Salary Information :

Commensurate with education and experience.
