Overview
Wound, Ostomy, and Continence (WOC) Nursing operates within the Mission, Core Values, and Strategic Plans of Fairview Hospitals.
WOC Nursing provides consultation, education, leadership, staff supervision, and direct care for patients with needs in the areas of wounds, ostomies, fistulas, drains, and incontinence problems.
WOC Nursing collaborates with physicians, staff nurses, and other health care disciplines to determine best treatment protocols, and facilitate quality outcomes for ostomy, wound and incontinence management.
WOC Nursing incorporates current research and best practice guidelines when developing a plan of care for ostomy, wound and continence care.
The WOC Nurse is available for consultation during weekend hours.
Responsibilities Job Description
Job Expectations :
- Provides consultation and direct patient care for new ostomy patients, including pre-operative site marking, education, and emotional support
- Manages complex ostomy and fistula care.
- Cares for simple and complex wounds and skin care injuries.
- Provides leadership in pressure injury prevention, surveillance, and treatment.
- Evaluates innovative ostomy, wound and skin care products and devices and influence product choices through collaboration with other departments / sites / teams.
- Develops WOC related policy, procedure, practice protocols or guidelines.
- Provides education to patients, family, and other healthcare professionals individually and in-group settings related to ostomy, wound and moisture management skin care.
- Actively participates within an interdisciplinary team; developing wound, ostomy and continence plans of care, and effectively advocating patient-centered care.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree and graduation from an accredited WOC Nursing program.
- Current MN RN License
- Certified Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nurse (CWOCN)
- BLS for Health Care Providers
Preferred
- 1 year WOC clinical experience
