Research Scientist / Driving Change Program Manager

Oversees and manages the daily operations of the Driving Change Project. Collaborates with the Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning Staff to lead Communities of Practice, (CoP) for faculty and instructors in gateway STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) courses.

Develops instructional material to lead the Community of Practice for STEM department leaders who are working on course syllabi and policy changes.

Collaborates with the Assessment Leaders and their staff in the design implementation and analysis of quantitative and qualitative assessment and evaluation of all aspects of the educational and support programming.

Supervises two postdoctoral scholars with expertise in qualitative and quantitative educational research. These postdoctoral associates will be assisting with this assessment.

Works with instructors and STEM faculty to write and submit instructional evaluation plans including surveys and protocols for student and instructor interviews for approval by the Ohio State university Institutional Review Board, IRB for human subjects’ approval.

Collects and evaluates quantitative instructional data from departments and staff of the registrar’s office to evaluate the progress of instructional changes occurring as part of this program.

Collaborative works with the director to design and develop center programming assessment materials that are both quantitative (survey results) and qualitative (interview results) and submit this work to the OSU IRB for human subjects’ approval.

Similarly collaborates with the Program Manager of the STEM Emerging Leadership fellows to design and develop programming assessments to ensure programming is progressing and data are continuously garnered on progress.

Works to submit IRB approval for these studies. Collaborates with the Student Support and Engagement Programming staff in the Gateway STEM departments / center (Math, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Physics, and Center for Life Sciences Education).

Monitors budget of the program and facilitates distribution of funds to internal individuals and organizations. Build and maintain active partnerships with campus partners on data collection in academic and administrative units on the progress of the programming within Our Inclusive Path Forward.

Manage, foster, and create media content for communication through media relations, social media, and the Ohio State Our Inclusive Path Forward website.

Represents the program across the Ohio State campus in various campus events and committees. Maintain certifications and training needed to comply with university policies and procedures such as Title IX, Institutional Data Policy, and financial and data management.

Undertake incremental or continuous improvements to optimize program effectiveness. Represents the program at national forums such as the HHMI Learning Community’s monthly meetings and HHMI-Driving Change in person meetings at the HHMI Conference Center.

Required : Ph.D. in STEM Education or STEM. Commitment to inclusion. At least four years of relevant experience including designing and developing assessment materials for STEM education evaluation.

Knowledge of designing inclusive STEM learning environments and STEM active learning concepts. Knowledge of student engagement programming.

Excellent time management and organizational skills. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Excellent relationship building skills.
