Job Summary
Under general supervision, the psychologist provides doctoral level clinical services to adults as an outpatient Psychologist on the Outpatient Adult Mental Health Services Team.
Key roles include individual psychotherapy, expert diagnostic assessment case coordination and case management. Couples, family or group psychotherapy may also be provided.
Standardized psychological testing may be performed but is not a core component of this job. The psychologist is expected to have skills and abilities with a wide range of moderate to severe psychiatric disorders including depression, anxiety, psychosis, and sequelae of traumatic stress.
Multicultural competence is essential. This position functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary team and provides clinical leadership for other staff members and for trainees working with the team.
 There are opportunities to be involved in quality improvement, data monitoring, and research projects. The psychologist participates as a faculty member for the accredited internship program and participates in provision of supervision and teaching.
Bilingual English / Spanish is a plus.
Essential Functions :
- Provides evidence-based psychotherapeutic services for adults with moderate to severe mental health disorders. Â
- Able to work effectively, and on a potentially longer-term basis, with patients who are diagnostically complex and may have challenging medical as well as psychosocial needs.
- Conducts in-depth diagnostic assessment as needed.
- Conducts safety and risk assessments as needed.
- Generates documentation of assessment and intervention in the medical record in a timely manner.
- Actively and effectively participates in team and departmental meetings.
- Consults with team members and other providers as needed. Â
- Participates or provides leadership in department, agency, or community meetings as well as internal Denver Health workgroups.
- Participates in supervision, teaching and didactics as part of the faculty of the accredited psychology internship program.
Provides teaching and mentoring of other trainees as needed.
Participate in program improvement and / or academic efforts to support department and organizational initiatives or to generate academic productivity
Education :
Doctorate Degree In Psychology Required
Work Experience :
One year post-doctoral experience preferred; will consider individuals who will complete their post-doctoral fellowship in the summer / fall of 2024.
Licenses :
- PSY-Licensed Psychologist - State Board of Psychologist Examiners Required and
- BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS / CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
- Advanced knowledge and skills in effective psychological practice with adults including evidence-based therapies, brief therapy modalities, crisis intervention, and risk assessment.
- Knowledge of patient populations' cultural, religious, ethnic, and social systems in interactions, care planning, and education.
- Knowledge of ethics and supervision relevant to psychological practice and training in a hospital settingÂ
- Excellent interpersonal skills and motivation to work as part of a dynamic interdisciplinary team in a medical environment.
- Skill in establishing a therapeutic alliance and engaging the patient in collaborative goal setting and prioritizing patient needs. Â
- Ability to participate as a faculty member with the accredited psychology internship and to provide teaching and supervision as needed for psychology trainees as well as trainees from other disciplines.Â
- Ability to respond to feedback and incorporate it into practice.
- Ability to manage the therapeutic relationship including consulting other team members and terminating treatment as needed.
- Ability to respond to trauma or psychiatric emergency including writing involuntary mental health holds.
