Full job description
A Heat Treat Technician tends gas fired and electric furnaces that heat treats various parts to conform to customer specifications.
Will also heat set parts on rods and press material to specified pressure prior to introduction to heat.
Essential Role and Responsibilities :
- Turn belts on and off.
- Properly loads and unloads machine to required standard of each part.
- Understands how to load belts to maximize capacity / throughput.
- Properly set weigh scales for accurate barrel weigh counts.
- Properly adjust production recording counts to barrel quantity.
- Supports and follows 6s standards for the department.
- Includes sweeping work area daily.
- Includes mopping work area weekly.
- Includes complete machine wipe down weekly.
- Understands the machine schedule and has the ability to select the next parts to run based on production needs and machine temperature.
- Properly check hardness of parts and have ability to verify hardness gage is reading properly.
- Properly contains and identifies parts that do not meet quality standards.
- Contain parts properly after power failure, endo loss, or other machine faults / failures.
- Can read and understand and properly react to controls on furnaces to adjust temperature, pressure, and time cycle.
- Understand the impact of endo, and how to properly read, understand and adjust endo / natural gas to adjust dewpoints on machines.
- Monitor the inductor flame and if needed relight inductor flames.
- Monitor the pilot flames and if needed relight pilot flames.
- Monitor the quench burners and if needed relight quench burners.
- Check the level of salt and when needed add salt to machines.
- Check the level of oil and when needed add oil to the oil quench.
- Monitor heat index and react according to policy.
- Be able to work in high heat and high humidity environments following the heat index program when levels are met.
- The heat index can reach degrees at times.
- All other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements :
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree
- Ability to actively participate in a fast paced, high heat, and team environment.
- Ability to read & comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence & memos.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to read and understand quality-related documents, general understanding of the company quality standards and expectations, and other related documents and instructions.
- Must be able to regularly stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms frequently.
- Must be able to frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to pounds (with assisted barrel cart).
