Position Summary
The Irrigation Technician performs journey level work in the installation, repair, and maintenance of irrigation sprinkler systems on City property to ensure effective watering of irrigation system to our park areas, historical grounds at Fair Park in Dallas, TX.
This role pays a wage of $22 to $24.90.

Located 2 miles east of downtown Dallas, Fair Park is the largest historical landmark in TX and is one of the nation's largest collections of 1930s art and architecture.

Responsibilities
Manage, and supervise installations; inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain the irrigation system within Fair Parks 277-acres, provides a high level of maintenance for turf and landscaping areas
Loads and unloads tools, irrigation materials, and equipment onto trucks to ensure necessary tools are available for repairs to be made.
Performs general technical and preventive maintenance on sprinkler systems such as checking oils, cleaning parts, and making adjustments to ensure system is maintained in proper operating condition.
Makes diagnoses of problems when possible or refers to journey level irrigation worker to provide effective repair of sprinkler systems.
Performs a variety of activities such as digging trenches, driving tractor to pull water tank, using chain saws and weed eaters to assist with irrigation system maintenance.
Provides quality customer service and competent public interaction.
Performs any and all other work as required or assigned as needed.
Qualifications
Must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he / she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Knowledge of basic principles and practices of installing and maintaining irrigation systems.
- MUST HAVE 3 yrs installing irrigation or working daily in landscaping.
- Needs VALID TX Installer License or VALID TX Irrigator's license (by TX Commision Environmental Quality-TCEQ)
Ability to perform manual labor including use of hand tools such as shovels and pipe wrenches.
Maintaining and operating hand and power tools and equipment- trenchers, backhoes, bobcats, etc.
Knowledge and understanding of safety procedures.
Able to work in inclement weather
- Ability to read blueprints and independently complete accurate materials takeoffs
- Applicants qualifying with Journeyman Plumber's license must obtain a TX Irrigator's License within probationary four mo period
Ability to perform labor for extended periods of time.
Establishing and maintaining work relationships.
Ability to communicate clearly in the English language, both verbally and in writing
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Must have availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays, including (24) emergency call as needed
