Description
Under the direct supervision of the Associate Dean, provide instruction to students enrolled in nursing courses. Teaching in the Nursing Curriculum could include the areas of psychiatric, gerontology, community health, and medical / surgical care.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities (include, but not limited to)
To teach in the areas of psychiatric, gerontology, community health, and medical / surgical care. Other duties include but are not limited;
to committee participation to meet accreditation requirements, curriculum development and evaluation. Requires strong organizational skills, excellent communication skills, demonstrated pattern of functioning as a collaborative team member, ability to effectively deliver both theory and practical hands-on instruction, and familiarity with all aspects of the nursing field.
Must be accessible to students and maintain positive relationships with health care providers. Full time faculty teach both theory and clinical courses.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, skill and ability requirements :
1. Ability to deliver instruction using active learning methods which accommodate different learning styles.
2. Ability to plan, select, prepare and implement appropriate active learning activities to meet all course competencies.
3. Ability to develop, utilize and / or update course competence and summaries.
4. Good oral / written communication skills.
5. Ability to maintain competency in the occupational field.
6. Demonstrated ability and experience working with diverse populations.
7. Ability to work collaboratively with other colleagues and staff.
8. Working knowledge of computer concepts.
Education and Experience Requirements :
1. Masters Degree in Nursing.
2. Two years (4,000 hours) of verifiable nursing practice experience in psychiatric, gerontology, community health, obstetrics, and medical / surgical, nursing, of which one year (2,000 hours) shall be within the previous five years.
One year (2,000 hours) of related occupation experience may be waived if the occupational instructor has at least two years of post-secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within the last five years.
3. Strong attention to detail.
4. Demonstrated competency as a collaborative and civil team member.
5. Current or eligible for license as a Registered Nurse in the state of Wisconsin.
Preferred qualification :
1. Meet State and Federal certification requirements for a Nursing Assistant Instructor (RN licensed to practice in Wisconsin, who has at least 2 years of experience working as a registered nurse, of which at least one year of experience shall be providing care in a nursing home or long-term care facility).
Supplemental Information
The Instructor - Nursing position is part of the Nursing department in the School of Health.
This position requires Wisconsin residence and in person instruction.
This full-time instructor position will teach on a flexible year-round calendar. Teaching assignments include variable hours, including days, evenings, and / or weekends.
Hiring will be delayed as this position has a start date of January 2nd, 2025.
