Summary :
United Sleep Diagnostics, Inc. is looking for a NYS licensed Polysomnographic (Sleep) Technologist OR a NYS Licensed Respiratory Technologist / Technician (full-time, part-time, or per diem work available).
Qualifications :
- Successful completion of an accredited education program leading to a certificate or associate degree with an emphasis in sleep technology OR successful completion of a sleep technology program associated with a state license and / or nationally accredited educational facility or equivalent experience and documented proficiency for all competencies required of a Sleep Technologist
- Maintain a current BLS certification (course must be completed in person and be approved by the AHA)
- Understand and comply with all HIPAA and privacy policies along with company standards of conduct
- Demonstrate written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrate appropriate social and customer service skills
Responsibilities :
- Collect, analyze, and integrate patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs (physical / mental limitations, current emotional / physiological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent medical / social history), and to determine final testing parameters / procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician, medical director or technical director and laboratory protocols.
- Review history, physical information, medications, procedure requests, and study protocol.
- Verifies the medical order and protocol for the ordered sleep study.
- Completes and verifies all patient documentation prior to patient arrival.
- Arrives patient in the ADS system and confirms all patient demographics.
- Explains pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures and orients the patient to the Sleep Center.
- Prepares and calibrates equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning; makes adjustments as needed.
- Applies electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
- Performs appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals; makes adjustments as needed.
- Performs routine positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting.
- Follows procedural protocols such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), parasomnia studies, PAP and oxygen titration, etc.
to ensure collection of appropriate data.
- Follow "lights out" procedures to establish and document baseline values (such as body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory and heart rates, etc.).
- Performs polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free and makes adjustments as needed.
Identifies and reports signal abnormalities.
- Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
- Implements appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.).
- Follow "lights on" procedures to verify the integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process (e.g. repeats the physiological and instrument calibrations and instruct the patient on completing questionnaires, etc.).
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age-specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Oversees and performs difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions.
- Scores sleep / wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines.
- Scores clinical events (such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc.) with center-specific protocols.
- Generates accurate reports by tabulating sleep / wake and clinical event data.
- Complies with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and standards regarding safety and infection control issues.
- Performs routine and complex equipment care and maintenance.
- Evaluates sleep study-related equipment and inventory.
- Responds to study participants' procedural-related inquiries by providing appropriate information.
- Demonstrates the ability to analyze complex situations and apply policy.
- Comply with BRPT Standards of Conduct.
Compensation :
- Based upon whether you are NYS Licensed and / or BRPT registered.
- PTO and Sick time are based on the number of shifts worked.
- Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance are offered to FT employees (3+ shifts a week).
