This position works varied shifts on evenings and weekends. Shift times vary but are between the hours of 2 : 00 p.m. to 10 : 30 p.
m. through the first part of the year. After January 5th, shifts will typically be from 1 : 00 p.m. to 6 : 00 p.m.

As a Temporary (Extra-Hire) Maintenance / Grounds Technician you will have the opportunity to work in all sorts of park settings and facilities and you will work alongside other parks maintenance professionals to accomplish challenging and rewarding work.
In this role you get to work as a part of the team maintaining the Central Region parks and facilities. The Central Region is responsible for parks in Tacoma, Parkland, and Spanaway;
with the majority of the work being done at Sprinker Recreation Center and Spanaway Park. What we do directly impacts and improves the quality of life for Pierce County residents.

You are responsible for performing a wide variety of maintenance and repair tasks for grounds, buildings, structures, and equipment within the Parks Department.

Core Daily Responsibilities
- Perform general parks maintenance work such as, but not limited to weeding, trimming, and mowing
- Perform maintenance work such as but not limited to facilities cleaning and upkeep
- Assist with setup, maintenance, and tear-down of equipment for special events
- Seasonal Events you will participate in - Fantasy Lights and Ice Lights
- Assist with closing park operations
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to safely lift, push and pull 50lbs
- Ability to work all terrains in all weather conditions

Pro-tem Judges in District Court, Pro-tem Superior Court Commissioners, Extra Hires with Retirement, and Work Study Students with Retirement are eligible for Retirement and Deferred Compensation and Social Security.
Pierce County employees are members of the State of Washington's Department of Retirement System (DRS) and depending on the position or previous DRS enrollment may be able to enroll in one of many programs DRS offers.
