Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)

Position Purpose

Facilitates the design of quality services for students with autism or other behavior challenges, including teacher training, teacher / staff / parent communication, in-home and parent training, curricular recommendations and implementation of the full continuum of special education services.

Conducts assessments and develops plans that conform to state and federal legal frameworks and ensures compliance with federal and state laws and district policies.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Instructional & Program Support

  • Models core organizational beliefs and values; communicates openly and effectively within and across teams to maximize student success.
  • Conducts functional behavior assessments including records review, classroom observations, and interviews with administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals, parents, and others.
  • Creates written reports documenting the results of assessment and review with administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals, parents, and others.
  • Conducts reinforcement preference assessments when necessary.
  • Designs data sheets and use data collection methods.
  • Assists teachers in designing appropriate instructional programs and environmental settings and planning individual modifications and accommodations for students.
  • Models effective instruction for students using evidenced-based techniques.
  • Manages student behavior including intervening in crisis situations.
  • Provides in-service training for district staff and parents on behavior intervention plans, data collection methods, and evidence-based practices.
  • Provides in-service training for district staff in performance of functional behavior assessments and functional analysis assessments, development of behavior plans, training, and use of emergency behavioral interventions.
  • Monitors accuracy of data collection, implementation of behavior intervention plans, and provides feedback to stakeholders.
  • Analyzes data and adjusts behavior invention plans to positively impact student outcomes.
  • Participates in special education ARD meetings to inform the development of Individualized Education Plans.
  • Assists with delivery of in-home and / or parent training for students with disabilities.
  • Pursues professional development activities that align with District goals and current professional research.
  • Complies with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the areas of assessment, placement, and planning for special education services.

Safety

  • Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.

Performs all job-related duties as assigned and in accordance with Board rules, policies and regulations. All employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations driven by need where a team effort is required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of federal and state guidelines and District policies and procedures regarding special education and students.
  • Knowledge of the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process.
  • Knowledge of Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting and implementation.
  • Skill in collecting and analyzing complex data.
  • Skill in professional learning, technical assistance, and consultation.
  • Skill in talking to others to convey information effectively.
  • Skill in facilitating meetings, and presenting information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and District staff.
  • Skill in written and oral communication skills including ability to interact with and influence campus staff as well as parents.
  • Knowledge of applied behavior sciences, including prevention and intervention strategies for behavior management.
  • Skill in in developing and supervising interventions and programs based on the science of Applied Behavior Analysis.
  • Skill at the intermediate level, working with Microsoft Office , especially Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
  • Ability to support students with physical, emotional, educational, and / or intellectual disabilities.
  • Ability to consider academic, social, and emotional needs of students in making decisions about academic settings and accommodations for individual students.
  • Ability to work effectively in collaborative teams.
  • Ability to train others and monitor their progress and comprehension.
  • Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and District staff.
  • Ability to exercise discretion regarding matters of a sensitive or confidential nature.
  • Ability to keep and compile records and reports.
  • Ability to use software to access databases, email, create spreadsheets, and do word processing.
  • Ability to be flexible and dependable in implementing job responsibilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written forms.

Travel Requirements

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards

  • Tools / Equipment Used : Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment.
  • Posture : Prolonged sitting; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing / pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion : Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; frequent walking.
  • Lifting : Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds and over); may be required to assist with positioning of students with physical disabilities, assist nonambulatory students, crisis intervention, and lift and move adaptive and other classroom equipment.
  • Environment : Works in an office setting with occasional home visits; exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases;

may require occasional irregular and / or prolonged hours.

  • Attendance : Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
  • Mental Demands : Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Education : Master’s degree in behavior analysis, psychology, special education, or a related field required.
  • Certification / License : Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification required.
  • Experience : 2 years’ experience working with school-aged children with moderate to severe disabilities, autism and related disorders, or other developmental delays preferred.

Experience and training in performance of functional behavior assessments and functional analysis assessments, development of behavior plans, training, and use of emergency behavioral interventions preferred.

Language : Bilingual (English / Spanish) working proficiency preferred in some settings.
