Inside the Role

In our department within Daimler Trucks North America, Product Validation Engineering (PVE) is responsible for all component and system level validation work to assure our products are industry leaders in reliability as well as supporting the lowest Total Cost of Ownership objectives for our customers.

PVE's Vehicle Performance Group is responsible for the development and validation in the areas of thermodynamics, data acquisition & processing, fuel economy, steering, braking, handling, NVH, and vehicle systems performance integration.

This specific group within Vehicle Performance plans, executes, and reports out on Summer Test and Winter Test activities as well as local testing that includes our Climatic Wind Tunnel and Cold Chamber.

We are looking for an experienced engineer with interest in joining our Vehicle Thermodynamics and Integration (VTI) team who will focus on the validation of engineering designs for current and future products.

Position offers a starting salary range of $ 82,000.00 - $104,500.00 USD

Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, andexperience

What You Drive at DTNA

Lead PVE's VTI group in the area of thermodynamics including, but not limited to vehicle exterior elemental exposure systems with current and future technology vehicles

Lead segments of our our semi-annual Summer and Winter Tests each year including areas of responsibilities and rotation areas such as instrumentation and CANape

Support Cold Chamber and Climatic Wind Tunnel activities.

Uphold a team focus with willingness to help and support the VTI group beyond areas of direct responsibility.

Develop and plan test activities with close collaboration with Design Engineering and Powertrain colleagues.

Analyze test results and undertake root cause analysis of shortcomings requiring corrective action, propose changes to improve component design and / or vehicle system performance

Provide timely written and verbal status reports to management as well as internal and external customers.

Promote and facilitate a culture of learning and continuous improvement with staff, customers and suppliers.

Actively engage customers and suppliers including : Detroit, Global Powertrain, Design Engineering, Engineering Platform Management, and all PVE functions.

May lead team or department project or work streams

Position will require some travel throughout the year (including ST and WT). Infrequently, some local travel may occur with relatively short notice.

Knowledge You Should Bring

Mechanical Engineering or equivalent Bachelor's Degree

2-4 years of relevant vehicle testing experience

1-3 years of CANape experience

Exceptional Candidates Might Have

Event planning experience that includes technical, resource, and personnel scheduling

Background in Powertrain systems

Experience with managing test plans

Understanding of engineering processes and downstream impacts

Ability to provide informal guidance to new team members including interns
