POSITION SUMMARY
This internship position will learn about and support power plants engineering in the areas of performance monitoring and generation optimization, process, plant and equipment design, control specifications, and troubleshooting operational issues.
Under direct supervision, the position will also conduct tasks related to process and equipment improvement regarding safety, operability, efficiency, and profitability.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Conduct detailed power plants performance analysis, on-site and off-site. Monitor plant performance and efficiency using analytical tools and software.
- Prepare power generation forecasts and provide other thermodynamics calculations to support planning and budgeting.
- Monitor and identify / implement improvements to increase net operating income by analyzing equipment working point and heat source conditions.
- Provide process design, equipment specifications, and control philosophies for operations.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform special projects and other tasks as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Currently enrollment in a Bachelor of Science degree program in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or related field as a junior, senior or graduate student.
- Ability to work in a professional and collaborative environment.
- Must have the ability to read, write and speak English at a level that will permit the employee to understand and communicate information in a manner that will enable the employee to safely and efficiently perform the job duties.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to work in plant operating areas including exposure to noise, vibrations, heat and cold.
- Must be able to wear any required protective equipment, as required by safety procedures and regulations.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds.
- Job requires sitting and / or standing for long periods of time with moderate bending, stooping, and kneeling.
- The ability to work at a computer and computer monitor and use repetitive motion for long periods of time.
- This job requires sitting approximately 80% and standing up to 20%.
- Ability to work 15-20 hours a week.
