Job Summary :
The Environmental Technician (Geologist) will serve as a supplemental worker within the CFS - Drilling Services organization.
This role involves supporting various environmental and geotechnical drilling projects, focusing on the installation and maintenance of instrumentation for groundwater and surface water monitoring.
The successful candidate will work primarily in field environments, supporting CCR (Coal Combustion Residuals) and Dam Safety projects, and overseeing contractors involved in these activities.
Key responsibilities include the installation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment such as Troll 500 and 400 Pressure Transducers, In-Situ VuLinks, dataloggers, automated slope inclinometers, and various other devices from Campbell Scientific, Geokon, and YSI / Xylem.
This is a physically demanding role that requires working outdoors year-round and in varying weather conditions.
Responsibilities :
- Collect, measure, and record field data for groundwater and surface water samples for laboratory analysis.
- Calibrate, maintain, and operate water quality monitoring equipment, including pH, ORP, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, conductivity, and temperature meters.
- Measure water levels in groundwater monitoring wells and piezometers using handheld meters.
- Conduct slug testing (rising / falling head tests) on groundwater monitoring wells.
- Develop and maintain newly installed groundwater monitoring wells and piezometers using various pumps and related equipment.
- Provide oversight to external contractors during environmental and geotechnical drilling projects.
- Troubleshoot and maintain instrumentation to ensure proper monitoring of groundwater and surface water data transmission to cloud servers.
- Operate UTVs, off-road vehicles, and manage trailers as necessary.
Qualifications :
- Education : Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, environmental biology, physical science, or a related field preferred.
- Experience : Previous experience in water quality monitoring, environmental sampling, and geotechnical drilling support is a plus.
- Skills : High mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting skills.
- Certifications : Relevant certifications in water quality monitoring and safety protocols are advantageous.

Work Conditions :
- Schedule : 10-hour shifts, Monday-Thursday (flexibility required, with some weekends).
