Overview
The College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team providing support for our Professional Skills Program (Education Specialist I).
This role is pivotal in enhancing the clinical communication skills of our veterinary students through guided simulated interactions.
This leads to improved outcomes for veterinarians, clients, and animals. The successful candidate will work with faculty to recruit, schedule, and train simulated clients, as well as providing organizational and administrative support.
Additionally, this role involves helping to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for participating veterinarians and community members.
Responsibilities
Help create veterinary scenarios : Develop detailed and realistic veterinary case scenarios for use in communication skills training.
Collaborate with faculty to ensure scenarios meet educational objectives and reflect current industry standards.
Collaborate with team to recruit, schedule, and train simulated clients : Identify and recruit individuals to act as simulated clients for veterinary case scenarios.
Coordinate and schedule simulated client training sessions.Provide comprehensive training to simulated clients to ensure consistent and realistic portrayals.
Provide tools for clients to give and receive feedback.
- Work with professional level students : Enhance their professional skills learning, which will include supervision, constructive feedback, and promotion of a safe learning environment.
- Create a welcoming environment : Foster a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for visiting veterinarians, community members, and other stakeholders.
- Organizational Support : Maintain accurate records of all case scenarios, simulated client sessions, and training materials.
Organize and manage a database of simulated clients and their availability.Assist in the planning and execution of special events and workshops related to veterinary training.
Handle administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings, preparing documents, and managing correspondence, and managing classroom learning platform (Canvas).
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (., Veterinary Science, Education, Communication). Veterinary Technician or four years of relatable experience can be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people.
- The successful candidate will be expected to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Must have a valid drivers license.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Experience in the veterinary field or familiarity with veterinary practices.
- Previous experience with simulated client or standardized patient programs.
- Experience in creating educational materials, including digital and video content
- Experience in educational settings.
