About the Role

Position Summary

The Manager, Consumer & Market Intelligence will lead consumer research projects to support company objectives and sales growth.

They will provide strategic, solutions-oriented insights to cross functional regional and global team to ensure actionable insights that result in winning fragrances, concepts and technology opportunities for Symrise.

The manager will manage and implement national and global research studies to identify consumer motivations, to reveal consumer needs and to understand consumer preferences.

They will develop and manage excellent working relationships with internal cross-functional partners (Sales, Evaluation, Technology and Perfumery), Symrise clients and Symrise research partners.

They will also manage external vendors as appropriate, to ensure delivery against internal and external customers’ needs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work closely with sales, evaluation, perfumery, technology and marketing to identify research objectives, develop research proposals, methodologies, timelines, and implement research for key clients across multiple product categories.
  • Analyze and interpret primary research data to support the creation and submission of winning fragrances, concepts, technologies and to identify unmet consumer needs.

Conduct necessary statistical analysis and provide direction for optimizing fragrance hedonics, concept hedonics or technology acceptance for various areas.

Debrief data with internal team to provide meaningful findings to modify fragrances. Develop consumer test results power point decks to support brief submissions and present to key clients.

  • Explore new trends and brand perception that resonate among generations, using crowdsourcing, social listening and other tools as appropriate.
  • In conjunction with Marketing, analyze secondary data, (Mintel, IRI, etc.) for uncovering and monitoring market trends, tracking consumer preferences and support Marketing presentations.
  • In conjunction with internal analytics, provide meta-analysis support to derive learnings from past work to provide guidance to fragrance development teams and respond to client requests.
  • Track new developments in research and introduce relevant research methodologies for increasing consumer understanding and providing direction to fragrance development teams.

About You

Knowledge and Experience Requirements

  • BA / BS required. MBA preferred.
  • Well versed in qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Must have 5-7 years research experience. Experience in consumer product categories, home care categories, or beauty / luxury categories is strongly preferred and will be prioritized.
  • Understanding of basic statistical analysis.
  • Experience in managing and negotiating with outside research suppliers.
  • Proficiency in statistical packages like SPSS a plus.
  • Experience with social listening and text analytics tools a plus, but not required.

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Outstanding written and oral communication and presentation skills. Polished, professional presentation style.
  • Strong analytical skills, including interpretation of primary and secondary data sources. Ability to synthesize multiple phases of research findings into an easy understandable format.
  • Good strategic thinking capability. Ability to see the big picture, while remaining detail-oriented.
  • Intellectually curious and be open to new approaches and technologies.
  • Passionate about research and about the fragrance / beauty / home care industry.
  • Self-starting, independent, reliable.
  • Strong decision-making skills.
  • Outstanding planning, organizing, follow-through and follow-up skills.
  • Some domestic travel required. Occasional international travel possible.
