The Nuclear Med Technologist operates and executes Nuclear Med procedures with expert knowledge of the capability of each Nuclear Med unit and the ability to perform any and all Nuclear Med procedures expertly.
This includes skills in operating and performing various tasks in preparing, executing, and completing procedures within their Nuclear Med environment.
This would include proper order review, basic and advanced Nuclear Med skills, knowledge of Radioactive materials handling / safety, regulatory compliance, and excellent patient care.
Performs all Nuclear Medicine exams at the Diagnostic Center including PET / CT and Cardiac Nuclear Medicine exams.
License / Certification
Required : CA Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) BLS
Preferred : ARRT(N) or NMTCB
Essential
Prepares isotope kits, calculating doses and logging information according to policy and state regulations.
Scans patient, using computer and / or camera according to physician's order.
Injects patient with proper radiopharmaceutical agent according to physician's order, using sterile technique.
Logs all necessary patient information according to policy.
Receives, stores and disposes of radioactive isotopes according to policy and state regulations.
Measures the radioactive dosage prescribed for a patient with a dose calibrator.
Performs all quality control / quality assurance studies as necessary according to procedure, and as directed by the Radiology Operational Review Committee.
Maintains records required by federal, state and The Joint Commission regulations.
Maintains current Basic Life Support certification.
Obtains and records all pertinent clinical information prior to examinations.
Prevents cross contamination, using appropriate means.
Adjusts technical factors to accommodate the age, body habitus, disease process and condition of each patient.

Able to effectively communicate and care for patient and family as reflected in the Plan for Provision of Care.
