Overview
The Electroneurodiagnostic Technician performs all neurology diagnostic tests. This responsibility includes the process of planning, education, implementation, communication and leadership.
This person may provide service to patients from neonatal, infant, child, adolescent, adult and senior age groups. S / he will have the knowledge and skills to care for the needs of these populations.
Responsibilities
Neurodiagnostics Functions
- Set up and disconnect the patients according to the Neurodiagnostic Society (ASET).
- Monitor, Record and Document pertinent patient information for physicians.
- Ability to understand the different montages and follow provider orders for selecting montages.
- Ability to maneuver over, under and around different pieces of equipment to get to the patient and work in different types of isolation and precaution rooms.
- Ability to prioritize workloads and respond to STAT studies.
- Ability to troubleshoot computers.
- Ability to recognize sleep, spike, seizure activity and different heart rhythms.
Patient Care
- Escorts patients from waiting area to exam room; communicates information regarding any extended wait or delay in appointment time.
- Educate patients on what will take place before, during and after Electroencephalography (EEG) / Electromyography (EMG).
- Cleans and, when appropriate, sterilizes equipment, instruments, and work areas as needed.
- Act as a liaison between patients, day staff, providers and management.
- Ability to assist and develop workflows to ensure patient safety.
- Ability to review patient history, medications and questionnaires.
Office / Clinical Preparation
- Ability to create and fill out log books.
- Prepare Chart Reviews for upcoming neuro patients.
- Prepares, and maintains clinical and office supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization and restocking of exam and treatment rooms.
- Able to assist in Accreditations and inspections.
Compliance / Safety
Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas / RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs;
performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.
- Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations / statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.
- If required for the position, ensures all certifications and / or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.
- Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.
Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or GED- Required
Graduated from an Electroneurodiagnostic technology training program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education programs or equivalent formal training- Preferred
Electroneurodiagnostic Technician - Performing diagnostic EEGs
Completion of Electroneurodiagnostic (END) program or completion of a 1 year CAAHEP accredited END program- Preferred
Certification & Licensures
BLS (American Heart Association) upon hire- Required
Registered or board eligible through the American Board of Registration of EEG and EP Technologists, Inc. (ABRET)- Preferred
Electroneurodiagnostic Technician - Performing diagnostic EEGs
Registry of the registration exams by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic Technologist (ABRET)- Preferred
Experience
Experience with operating office equipment; phones, fax, copier and scanner- Required
Minimum two (2) years experience in Neurodiagnostic- Preferred
Previous experience with evoked potentials, ambulatory EEG, or invasive epilepsy monitoring- Preferred
Previous hospital (outpatient and inpatient) experience- Preferred
Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department.
Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
