JOB SUMMARY
This is a paraprofessional aide position with the Lancaster County Children &YouthAgency. This employee will provide casework support for various child welfare activities throughout the Agency, transporting families / children and monitoring parent child visitation at the Agency and in the community.
This position requires a flexible schedule and will include nontraditional hours and / or overtime. Work is assigned and reviewed by the unit casework supervisor.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The employee reports directly to the caseworker supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Must be able to travel approximately % of the daily work time. Employee uses their own vehicle and will be reimbursed for business expenses as per the county policy.
- Provide transportation to clients to various appointments, court hearings, meetings, etc. as requested by Agency staff.
- Picks up and delivers equipment, clothing and other belongings of clients, or other materials.

- Plans, schedules, conducts, or accompanies Caseworkers on home visits.
- Shares observations and assessments with Caseworkers and Supervisors.
- Participates in team meetings.
- Provides guidance to parents and family members in home management activities in the following areas : budgeting, nutrition, personal hygiene, problem solving, accessing community resources, care and maintenance of the home, general care of the children, general parenting skills, etc.
- Supervises Court-ordered and non-Court-ordered parent / child visitations in the office, community, or parents’ home.
- Observes and documents client and family strengths and problem areas and regularly communicates updated information to Caseworkers and Casework Supervisors.
- Assists and encourages clients to use available community resources by providing information and referrals.
- Attends trainings as identified by the Supervisor.
- Provide testimony in court cases as determined by the Supervisor and Agency Solicitor.
- Performs other related work as requested / required.
- Must have daily access to reliable transportation.

The employee will perform other related duties as required by the supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduation from high school or its equivalency or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Preferred experience in customer service or human service work.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to acquire knowledge of community resources.
- Ability to acquire knowledge of child development and basic parenting skills.
- Knowledge of social, economic and health problems and corresponding resources.
- Ability to evaluate and analyze information obtained through interviews and general observation, reports, records, and other sources and to provide information to clients, families and social service and / or administrative staff.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with clients, families, agency staff and other community agencies.
- Ability to interact and work with people of diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to sit and / or drive for long periods.
- Ability to bend and lift up to lbs.
- Ability to use a personal computer and applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and mobile phone.
- Ability to practice organizational and stress management skills and to practice use of good judgement.
REQUIRED LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS / CLEARANCES
Required prior to Active Employment :
- Pennsylvania ChildLine Child abuse History Clearance
- Acceptable PA State Police Criminal Record Clearance
- Acceptable FBI Fingerprint Clearances completed through the required PA DHS vendor
Clearances may be no more than one year old at the time of employment will be accepted.

- Valid driver’s license
- Valid car registration and insurance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Does not pose a threat to the health and safety of the department.
- Must have the ability to work independently.
- Must have the ability to transport self to various locations for meetings and trainings.
- This position has been identified as having the potential for exposure to Hepatitis B.
