Reuters is seeking an exceptional National Security Reporter (Level 1 Journalist) to work on the U.S. Foreign Policy team and report on the U.
S. intelligence community, including the CIA, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the intelligence committees in Congress and the National Security Council.
The reporter’s top priority will be to tap into the most important national security concerns of the U.S. government and get ahead of major changes in policy on the key issues such as China, Russia and the war in Gaza.
About the Role
As National Security Reporter (Level 1 Journalist) you will :
- Break news from sources in the U.S. intelligence community
- Generate original story ideas for enterprise reporting
- Collaborate closely and work to confirm tips with other members of the foreign policy team, other reporters in Washington and Reuters bureaus around the world
About You
You’re a fit for the role of National Security Reporter (Level 1 Journalist) if you have :
- At least 10 years’ experience as a reporter
- A keen interest in foreign policy and national security issues
- Sources across Washington and among U.S. allies, including sources in the intelligence community
- A proven track record in breaking source-based news
- Prior experience covering intelligence agencies would be a plus

Reuters : The Real World in Real Time
Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The location(s) for this role include one or more of the following metro locations : Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, Washington, DC.
The base compensation range for the role in any of those locations is $72,000 - $130,000. The base compensation range in other locations may vary.
