Under the general supervision of the Sports Camp Director, the Sports Camp Coach performs a variety of duties related to the teaching of sports skills and training.
Required Qualifications : Education and Experience : High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Experience or interest in sport-specific camp instruction.
Knowledge and Skills : Must have strong communication and listening skills. The ability to communicate effectively while working with people of all ages and abilities.
Must have verbal skills, interest, and enthusiasm in the subject, patience, and an interest in working with diverse groups of students.
Requires basic clerical skills. Abilities : Requires the ability to work well with others to accomplish the objectives of the position.
The position requires flexibility, a positive attitude, and enthusiasm. Requires the ability to perform all aspects of the job.
Requires the ability to interpret faculty instructions. Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications : Knowledge of athletics and sports is preferred. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions : Goodphysical fitness and energy level to demonstrate skills andinstruction.
Position involves lifting of objects 10-50 lbs. Requires sufficient arm, hand, and finger dexterity for handling event setup and operating equipment.
Requires hearing and speaking skills sufficient to communicate with staff and campers. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and operate the equipment.
Work is normally performed in a sports / game setting, with occasional work in buildings, and outdoors on campus grounds with little exposure to health or safety hazards.
Work will usually be performed during regular business hours. Some work may require exposure to inclement weather conditions.
Essential Duties : Teaches sports skills and training, which may include : · Instructing campers on sport-specific skills and drills· Teaching competition strategies· Working with small groups of campers to teach sport-specific individual and team techniques
Assists in creating and maintaining a safe, positive learning environment for campers, which may include : · Ensuring campers are prepared for each session with proper shoes, clothing, and related equipment· Monitoring activities for safety as directed by the Camp DirectorPerforms other duties assigned by the Camp Director related to providing campers with a positivecamp experience.
