What you will need :

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; Bachelor's Degree in nursing, EMS, education, Healthcare Leadership, or public health or evidence that degree is being actively pursued.
  • Current unencumbered license to practice nursing in the State of Illinois.
  • Current EMS ALS credential : Paramedic or PHRN within six months of hire.
  • IDPH certification as an EMS Lead Instructor.
  • ECRN certification, TNS certification strongly preferred.
  • AHA BLS CPR for Healthcare provider and ACLS Provider required. Instructor for each course preferred and required within six months of hire.
  • Minimum of two years documented teaching experience, including documented classroom teaching experience, i.e. EMT, Paramedic, CPS, ACLS, ITLS, PHTLS, PALS.

General Summary :

Under the direct supervision of the EMS Administrative Director and the EMS Medical Director, is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, teaching, and evaluating EMS continuing education offerings, participating in System Entry and Peer Educator credentialing, serving as the assigned System educator to select EMS agencies, serving as the System liaison to select shared governance committees, assisting with the EMS System Mobile Integrated Healthcare (MIH) Program, Emergency Communications Registered Nurse (ECRN) education and credentialing;

the State of Illinois Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS) educational program, assisting the Community Training Center as a CPR and ACLS faculty member, and serving as either the Paramedic Program Hospital Clinical or Lab Coordinator consistent with national, state, local, and accreditor standards and key performance expectations developed for the position.

What you will do :

EMS Continuing Education duties : Creates assigned EMS Continuing Education modules to include lesson plans, literature searches, student handouts, educator resources to support educational methods, declarative content, audio-visual aids, checks for understanding, methods to bridge theory to practice, and credit questions using evidence-based adult education principles for all levels of EMS practitioners, mentors other faculty, and presents classes in compliance with program standards and guidelines.

Paramedic Program Hospital Clinical Coordinator : Meets all eligibility requirements and key performance duties (KRAs) defined by NCH and the Committee on Accreditation of EMS Programs (CoAEMSP) to maintain Paramedic Program Accreditation.

  • This includes updating annual letters of agreement with every clinical hospital and unit; updating Clinical Instruction Plans for each specialty area;
  • conducting or monitoring compliance with clinical preceptor education; validating that each student has met all mandatory health requirements prior to being released to the clinical units;
  • scheduling each paramedic student for 200 hours of clinical rotations at multiple hospitals and units; orienting all students to the clinical rotation expectations;
  • verifying paramedic student compliance with clinical attendance, completion of all patient care contacts and skill revolutions required by CoAEMSP;

determining that students have passed or failed Harper Courses EMS 217 and 218; and sending thank you letters to all unit leaders. OR

Paramedic Program Lab Coordinator : Meets all eligibility requirements and key performance duties (KRAs) defined by NCH and CoAEMSP to maintain Paramedic Program Accreditation.

  • Duties include scheduling all labs in compliance with National EMS Education Standards requirements, creating, updating, and printing lab performance skill sheets, maintaining all lab equipment with sufficient inventories and states of repair to ensure safe practice;
  • ensuring that students have completed each lab skill revolution as a rote station or in a scenario context as required by CoAEMSP and in the learning sequence required;
  • ensuring that each student has been competencied on every ALS skill contained in the National EMS Scope of Practice Model;
  • scheduling and ensuring appropriate credentials for each paramedic lab and psychomotor exam preceptor; rounding during labs to ensure evidence-based education is occurring;

ensuring accurate and timely payment of all preceptors; and planning, organizing and implementing the National Registry Credentialing Psychomotor exam after graduation.

System Entry and Peer Educator classes and credentialing : Assists in facilitating System entry and Peer Educator education, cognitive and psychomotor testing, credentialing;

database maintenance; and communication messaging in compliance with System policies and procedures.

Designated Agency System liaison : Serves as the System Educator assigned to EMS Agencies to supplement the Resource and Associate Hospital EMS Coordinators shared governance and mentoring plan.

  • Key duties : Monitors monthly Controlled Substance and Glucometer logs, performs ambulance inspections, sends letters of verification, validates annual CE and mandatory skill hours;
  • issues suspension and reinstatement memos on forms prepared by the System based on compliance / non-compliance with CE standards;
  • recommends Peer Educators and Field Preceptors; conducts Capstone phase meetings with paramedic students and makes a competency recommendations;

conducts agency QM audits; and reviews contested calls for learning opportunities.

MIH Program : Assists the EMS Administrative Director and EMS MD in conducting MIH education, reviewing quality metrics and performance, and making recommendations for program improvement.

ECRN and TNS Education : Assists in delivering program content, and serving as a lab and / or final psychomotor exam preceptor.

CPR and ACLS Faculty : When paramedic class in not in academic session, serves as faculty for the NCH CTC CPR and ACLS classes as time allows
