JOB DETAILS :

We seek an innovative and dynamic colleague to provide leadership and strategic direction for the library s instruction program and public-facing library services.

This is a 12-month tenure-track library faculty position at the rank of assistant or associate professor commensurate with experience.

Starting salary $65,000. This position directly supervises a highly capable and self-sufficient staff of four access and user services professionals and provides strategic direction for the library student employment program.

This position provides leadership and direction for the library's instruction and subject liaison programs. As a member of the library faculty, this position participates in strategic planning, development of new initiatives, financial planning, and policy development.

This position reports to the director of libraries.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an American Library Association accredited library and information science program.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Evidence of problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Experience providing public services in a library setting.
  • Experience in library instruction.
  • Professional experience supervising individuals or teams.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience managing library public service operations, such as instruction, research services, and / or access services.

Major areas of responsibility

  • Leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of the library's instruction program, including course-integrated, optional credit-based and other instruction
  • Coordinates library faculty collaboration in planning, promoting, implementing, and assessing instruction program strategic directions and best practices.
  • Manages the library liaison program, coordinating the distribution of disciplines among librarians and facilitating discussions about liaison activities and approaches.
  • Maintains awareness of faculty and student information and research needs by developing professional relationships with members of the campus community.
  • Keeps abreast of library instruction scholarship, new policies and standards, and internal training needs by facilitating professional development opportunities and discussion.
  • Gathers instruction statistics and prepares annual reports.
  • Coordinates and provides strategic direction for library research consultation services, virtually and in-person.
  • Serves as liaison to assigned departments, consulting and collaborating with students, faculty, and staff to meet their information and instructional needs.
  • Supervises and provides strategic oversight for user services staff who manage main desk operations, equipment checkout, study room reservation and use, resource sharing / interlibrary loan, and course reserves.
  • Leads development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of library user services processes and procedures in collaboration with direct reports and other library colleagues.
  • Anticipates user needs, explores emerging user services technologies, develops forward-thinking approaches to the delivery of user services.
  • Fosters a collaborative environment that encourages innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Support the team's professional growth and development, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Collaborates with library colleagues to collect service statistics and deliver annual reports.
  • Develops, reviews, maintains library emergency response plan in collaboration with library colleagues.
  • Provides strategic direction for the library's student employment programs, developing and enhancing practices to infuse mentorship and high impact practices into the student work experience.
  • Manages the student employment budget.
  • Chairs the library student supervisors committee.
  • Other administrative duties as assigned by the director of libraries.

McIntyre Library is a team-based organization consisting of 10 faculty, 17 staff, and about 30 student employees. Additionally, we work collaboratively with library staff at the UW-Eau Claire Barron County branch campus and with colleagues at the other Universities of Wisconsin libraries.
