The IT Solutions Architect - Cloud Engineer works collaboratively to define and maintain the University's Cloud Roadmap and Architecture.
As a senior technical advisor and engineer, the IT Solutions Architect - Cloud Engineer designs and implements cloud architecture solutions to meet the university's current and future needs, focusing on scalability, security, and cost-effectiveness.
Performs the necessary leadership, coaching and mentoring of Technical Leads, and facilitates research and analysis to select products and services that align with the architectural strategy.

- Infrastructure Management : Manage and maintain cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure) including provisioning, monitoring, and troubleshooting to ensure high availability and performance.
- Security and Compliance : Implement and enforce cloud security best practices, ensuring compliance with university policies and relevant regulations (e.
g., FERPA, HIPAA). Participate in internal audits.
- Automation : Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform to automate cloud infrastructure provisioning and management.
- Cost Management : Monitor and optimize cloud spending, providing recommendations for cost-saving measures while maintaining performance.
- Technical Documentation : Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for cloud architecture, processes, and procedures.
- Training and Support : Provide guidance and support to IT staff and university departments on cloud-related issues and best practices.
- Disaster Recovery : Design and implement disaster recovery plans for cloud-based systems to ensure business continuity.
This is an onsite role based in Omaha, Nebraska, with a Monday through Friday schedule. The position also requires flexibility for after-hours projects and changes, ensuring that critical tasks and adjustments can be made outside of standard business hours as needed.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or in a related area and / or equivalent experience. Master's degree in a related field preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in cloud architecture and engineering.
- In-depth knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
- Experience with cloud migration projects, including hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure and services.
- Strong understanding of networking, security, and identity management in a cloud environment.
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform.
- Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- Familiarity with hybrid cloud environments and integrating on-premises systems with cloud platforms.
- Experience with Platofrm as a Service
- Experience with Serverless computing such as AWS Lambda and Microsoft Azure Functions.
- Proficiency in writing Python scripts to automate cloud integrations and operational tasks.
- Understanding of cloud resource tagging, monitoring, and optimization through automation.
- Ability to work with JSON, YAML, and other data formats commonly used in cloud configurations.
- Familiarity with tools like Github, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps for continuous integration and deployment.
- Experience with Azure API Management for designing, deploying, and managing APIs in Azure.
- Knowledge of virtual networks (VNets), subnets, and network security groups (NSGs).
