Job Overview :
We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Urban Planner to join our team at Sustainability Engineering Group (SEG) , a leading civil engineering firm.
This position provides an exciting opportunity to work alongside civil engineers, architects, and other professionals in the design and planning of sustainable and functional urban spaces.
Key Responsibilities :
Data Collection & Analysis :
- Gather and analyze data on land use, entitlements, and applicable regulations.
- Prepare comprehensive zoning reports that outline zoning regulations and development guidelines.
Site Planning & Design :
- Assist in the preparation of site plans and layouts for new development, public infrastructure, and transportation projects.
- Utilize GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and CAD software to create maps and visual representations of plans.
Permitting & Regulatory Compliance :
- Help prepare documentation for zoning and development applications.
- Ensure projects comply with local and state regulations, zoning codes, and environmental standards.
Collaboration with Engineers and Stakeholders :
- Work closely with civil engineers, project managers, and other professionals to coordinate the design and entitlement of projects such as residential communities and commercial developments.
- Assist in communicating project goals and plans to city officials, residents, and other stakeholders.
Public Consultation & Engagement :
- Support community outreach efforts, including public meetings, to gather input from local residents and stakeholders.
- Address community concerns and integrate feedback into planning solutions.
Sustainability Initiatives :
Contribute to the incorporation of sustainable practices in planning, including green infrastructure, walkable communities, and energy-efficient designs.
Other duties reasonably related to the scope of responsibilities may be assigned.
Requirements :
Skills & Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or a related field.
- Prior Engineering, Architecture and / or Landscape firm experience.
- Familiarity with GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS) and CAD tools (AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and translate it into actionable planning solutions.
- Knowledge of local zoning laws, urban planning principles, and environmental regulations is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to multitask and manage time effectively in a fast-paced work environment.
