Full-time Lecturer - Higher Education Counseling / Student Affairs

The School of Education in the Bailey College of Science and Mathematics at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo is seeking to hire one full-time lecturer on a one-year contract with the possibility of extension.

The appointment begins September 16, 2024 and ends June 16, 2025. The bulk of teaching assignments will be in research methods, student development theory, multicultural theory, and / or leadership in higher education counseling, advising, and student affairs.

Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience. The anticipated hiring range for this role is $60,084 - $81,432 annually.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• A doctorate in higher education administration, student affairs, counseling, or a related field.
• OR a master's degree in higher education administration or a related field with 5 or more years of relevant experience in a higher education setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Preference will be given to candidates with evidence of (or potential for) excellence in teaching.
• Teaching effectiveness, understanding of the teaching and learning process, and currency in the subject matter of teaching assignments are all important aspects of the lecturer position.

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT AND PROGRAM

The School of Education (SOE) offers a variety of post-baccalaureate teaching credentials, an advanced credential, and four master’s degrees.

As an interdisciplinary unit, the SOE delivers its programs in partnership with eight departments across three colleges, and nearly 50 school districts and county offices of education in our expanded service area.

The SOE also works closely with other departments including Child Development and other BCSM units focused on Teacher Education : Liberal Studies and the Center for Engineering, Science and Mathematics Education.

The Master of Science degree in Higher Education Counseling and Student Affairs (HECSA) is a 2-3 year program which prepares graduates for a wide array of specialties in community college, university, and related settings such as advising, programming, and leadership.

HECSA embraces a cohort model with a significant learn by doing fieldwork component and a social justice focus.
