OVERVIEW

The Senior Director of Humanitarian Legal Services oversees all USCRI legal programming and manages the Humanitarian Legal Services leadership team, providing oversight of the provision of legal services throughout the country.

The Senior Director is responsible and accountable for the strategic implementation of USCRI’s legal programming, including special projects and high priority programming, and its outcomes.

The Senior Director focuses on cultivating, establishing, and maintaining relationships with funders, external stakeholders, and partners, and ensuring the highest quality of USCRI legal services.

The Senior Director also identifies new funding opportunities and is the lead on developing new initiatives. The Senior Director reports directly to the Senior Vice President.

The Senior Director ensures that legal program information is shared with the Senior Vice President, and guides communication among legal offices, headquarters, field offices, and partners to streamline legal program operations.

This position is in person at the USCRI Arlington, VA headquarters. (One day per month of remote work.)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Execute overall management, growth, and service delivery for USCRI’s Humanitarian Legal Services;
  • Manage and organize the leadership team of professionals supervising all legal services programming;
  • Provide oversight of legal services program deliverables, including on-going assessment of project implementation, compliance, timely reporting to funders, budgeting and financial oversight;
  • Serve as the primary contact with current and prospective funders, service providers, subcontractors, and the legal community;
  • Identify new program funding opportunities and initiatives, and create, develop, and implement new legal programming;
  • Conduct quality assurance activities, such as visits and supervision observations, and monitor legal sites for compliance and adherence to program requirements and USCRI policies and procedures;
  • Set an example in legally ethical behavior, quality management of staff, and excellence in work product;
  • Communicate regularly, providing timely and relevant updates on important program issues, with the Senior Vice President;
  • Guarantee data collection and analysis for reporting purposes;
  • Remain abreast of best practices in legal services provision and stay up-to-date on refugee and immigrant populations and situations, providing guidance to legal staff on immigration legal matters;
  • Serve as an expert in immigration law and make presentations, conduct trainings, and serve as the representative of USCRI legal services;
  • Maintain bar membership through continuing legal education;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • J.D. from accredited law school;
  • 10+ years of program management experience, working with grants and contracts;
  • 10+ years supervising attorneys, paralegals, and other program and legal staff;
  • 7+ years of immigration legal practice experience;
  • Current bar membership in good standing to practice law in any of the United States;
  • Experience working with immigrants, low-income communities, children, survivors of domestic violence, survivors or sexual assault, or other gender-based violence;
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Ability to know when to report sensitive and important matters to leadership; and how to communicate agency policy and procedures to staff;
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills; ability to work as a team member and independently, with a high-level of self-motivation and ability to meet goals and deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
  • Detail oriented; proven examples of ability to delegate and oversee work product;
  • Strong ethics and sound judgment; ability to set an example of professional, exceptional leadership;
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain a positive team environment;
  • Ability to mentor, train and provide career path guidance to staff.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • Satisfactory completion of USCRI’s Orientation and Training; and
  • Complete additional training as identified by supervisor(s) or Human Resources

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
  • Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands; and
  • Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.

Salary Range : $150000.0000 To $165000.0000 Annually
