Position Summary
The Nurse Manager provides assigned unit(s) with clinical patient care leadership, thus ultimate quality care in the management of patients from admission through discharge.
This position requires an experienced, proficient registered nurse, who has demonstrated proficiency in upholding and maintaining department philosophy, policies, and standards of patient care.
The nurse manager maintains accountability for department staff activities with continual communication with staff and all members of the healthcare team, ensuring optimal quality care.
Job Responsibilities
- Provides clinical and operational oversight of patient care unit.
- Makes patient rounds daily assuring patient care needs are met.
- Interacts with medical staff on a regular basis.
- Functions as a clinical resource to staff and physicians, with continuous collaboration with staff.
- Assists in the provision of patient care as necessary.
- Responds to issues related to problem resolution and conflict management when presented with issues / concerns for the unit.
- Conducts a thorough investigation and follow-up for any patient care concerns raised.
- Assures that items needed for patient care are present and in proper working order.
- Collaborates with other hospital departments to assure quality care is maintained.
- Assures and monitors quality assurance in the provision of patient care (restraint compliance, altered skin integrity assessments, patient education, and overall charting compliance).
- Develops and implements unit performance improvement plans.
- Interviews and hires all unit personnel with staff feedback as indicated.
- Monitors orientation progress in conjunction with preceptor to assure competency.
- Maintains payroll function for unit staff.
- Conducts staff performance appraisals in a timely manner.
- Demonstrates leadership, promotes and encourages teamwork among staff members and assists in creating a positive work environment for staff.
Education / Experience
- BSN (preferred) from an accredited school of nursing.
- 3 years nursing experience and previous supervisory / management experience.
- 2 years’ experience in area of specialty.
- Currently licensed as a RN by the State of Indiana Health Professions Bureau.
- Obtains and maintains current certification in BLS, and other required certificates in specialty areas.
