Carpenter Apprentice 1

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Responsible for assisting journeyman and foreman carpenters in the completion of their tasks while learning the trade.

KEY RESULT AREAS (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

• Setup trailers
• Build decks, stairs, roofs and other temporary structures between office units, plan tables, install shelves, setup tool trailers and / or conex's, silt fences and / or straw bales, setup site per erosion control plan
• Hand-set forms and / or assemble the gang forms
• Assist journeyman and foreman with the shooting of grades and elevation
• Unload, handle, stockpile, and erect of all pre-fabricated materials
• Concrete and rough carpentry
• Hand set Walls
• Footings
• Set Gang Wall Forms
• Structural Concrete Decks
• Drywall
• Finish Carpentry, doors, frames, and hardware
• Millwork and cabinetry
• Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
• All other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Ability to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy
• Ability to picture solid objects from drawings or diagrams
• Some ability to read plans
• Ability to operate equipment such as : table saws, radial arm saws, belt & disc sanders, drill presses, fall protection equipment, rigging and form systems
• Strong teamwork orientation
• Positive attitude and professional customer service skills
• Detail orientation
• Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• High school diploma or GED
• Enrolled in apprenticeship program
• Previous experience on a construction site preferred
