We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Finance to join our executive leadership team. This position will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the multiple small businesses and organizations, ensuring the fiscal health and sustainability of these businesses and our seniors affordable housing initiatives.
This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong background in financial management, and low-income housing tax credits (LIHTC).
In addition, familiarity with tax returns for both profit and non-profit organizations is imperative, including being a liaison with our CPAs.
Key Responsibilities :
Financial Leadership and Strategy :
- Develop and implement financial strategies to support the organization’s mission and long-term goals.
- Provide leadership in financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
- Advise the President and Board of Directors on financial matters and strategic initiatives.
Financial Management and Reporting
- Oversee all financial operations, including accounting, reporting, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial statements, reports, and analyses.
- Manage cash flow, investments, and financial risk to maintain organizational stability.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of accurate and timely tax returns and related filings, including federal and state taxes.
- Manage relationships with tax authorities and handle any tax-related inquiries or audits
Budgeting and Financial Planning :
- Lead the annual budgeting process, including preparing budgets, analyzing variances, and providing recommendations for financial improvements.
- Monitor financial performance and implement corrective actions as needed to meet budgetary goals.
Compliance and Risk Management :
- Ensure financial compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to affordable housing and nonprofit operations.
- Oversee audits, financial reviews, and internal controls to safeguard organizational assets.
- Monitor and maintain policies and procedures consistent with best practices.
- Collaborate with external tax advisors, consultants, and auditors to ensure the organization’s tax strategies and compliance measures are up-to-date and effective
Team Leadership and Development :
- Manage and mentor the finance team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
- Develop and implement professional development opportunities for finance staff.
Stakeholder Engagement :
Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including investors, lenders, government agencies, and community partners.
Qualifications :
Education and Experience :
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. CPA or MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in financial management, with at least 2 years in a senior leadership role.
- Experience in real estate modeling and finance, affordable housing, and construction draw review is important and highly desirable.
Skills and Abilities :
- Experience in strategic financial planning and analysis.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Experience in tax document and monitoring, managing timely filing of tax returns.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
