Director, Global Payroll Services

This global payroll leadership role will develop the strategy for payroll service expansion in support of Toast’s business growth while also applying best-practices for accurate, reliable and efficient payroll service delivery.

About this roll (Responsibilities)

Develop and drive a global payroll strategy and roadmap that results in efficient and accurate payroll delivery as Toast grows.

Partner cross-functionally and globally to set project plans and oversee implementation and changes, as needed.

Directly manage the Americas and EMEA Payroll teams, and indirectly provide global guidance and standards for payroll delivery in APAC.

Define roles and responsibilities, establish team goals, align priorities and identify skills needed to meet commitments.

Communicate performance expectations and support career and skill development plans. Define the team operating and delivery model, including use of outsourced service providers.

Manage all aspects of payroll service provider delivery. This includes the evaluation and recommendations for payroll service provider selection, setting service standards, managing service quality and managing cost.

Proactively identify opportunities for service provider improvements and additional services that will best support Toast as we grow globally.

Establish and oversee the regular operation and delivery of payroll services. Ensure all payroll operations are reliable, accurate and delivered on time.

Implement and maintain appropriate audit and control procedures. Ensure confidential information is managed securely. Proactively address any process gaps.

  • Act as the control owner for SOX related to payroll services and ensure other SOX control owners within the payroll function are trained and administering controls properly.
  • Establish processes to address employee payroll questions. Monitor patterns of inquiries in order to proactively address potential issues or identify process improvements that could improve employee experience.

Ensure payroll team members are trained and are delivering prompt and accurate responses.

  • Provides oversight to communication with Toasters about payroll services, operation and delivery which may include information posted on The Pantry, sent via email, or other means.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally on a variety of projects and initiatives that involve payroll delivery changes. This may include changes to payroll deductions, policy changes that impact payroll delivery, or other similar changes.
  • Ensure all regulatory payroll and tax filings are completed accurately and on-time, whether directly or by payroll team members.

Collaborate with Toast’s corporate Tax, Legal or other functions if questions or issues arise, as needed.

Lead planning and delivery for establishment of payroll services in a new country and on integrations following new business acquisitions.

Collaborate within cross-functional teams, provide advice on payroll delivery to fit the business need, and ensure payroll team members are prepared to support delivery.

Collaborate closely with Toast’s Equity services team to ensure the payroll income and tax aspects of equity income are properly administered for all Toast locations globally.

Ensure local payroll team members understand local payroll requirements relative to equity income and administer them accurately.

Collaborate closely with technology teams to ensure all systems and integrations related to payroll delivery are operating efficiently and accurately.

Proactively identify and collaborate on new automation in support of greater efficiency and accuracy.

  • Collaborate with Toast’s Finance, Accounting and Tax teams to ensure accounting entries and Finance reporting related to payroll are accurate.
  • Participate in other projects and initiatives, as needed.

Do you have the right ingredients ? (Requirements)

  • 10+ years of global payroll management experience within a growing, publicly traded organization that grants employee equity in multiple countries
  • Experience managing US Workday payroll delivery is a plus
  • Outstanding people management skills with the ability to attract, develop and retain talent
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain efficient, reliable and accurate payroll processes that scale for growth
  • Strong planning and project-management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and work within cross-functional teams

LI-DNI

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills and experience.

In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus / commissions if eligible), equity, and benefits.

Pay Range

$144,000 $230,000 USD
