Job Description
Key Accountabilities
Instructs class groups in meal preparation and technique demonstration in the kitchen.
Occasionally consults with participants on a 1 on 1 basis as needed.
Provides education within the context of provided curriculum.
Maintains kitchen cleanliness, sanitation, and safety.
Orders kitchen materials, purchases food, and keeps inventory in conjunction with the other Wellness Specialists.
Coordinates food preparation in conjunction with the other Wellness Specialists.
Collaborates on curriculum and program development as a part of the Lifestyle Medicine team.
Fosters a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere for students to feel comfortable to ask questions and be curious.
Plans and / or assists health coaches with culinary-related demonstrations or food samples.
Participates in on-going staff education, including motivational interviewing techniques.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in related Wellness Field. Associates degree considered in combination with relevant experience. Certification in culinary field preferred.
2+ years of related culinary work experience.
Strong communication and instruction skills. Respectful and genuine communication style.
Demonstrated empathy and interpersonal skills. This program puts an emphasis on an atmosphere of openness, with students feeling comfortable that they can share free from judgment.
Ability to organize, order materials, and keep inventory.
Ability to adjust recipes and guide participants within the spirit of provided curriculum.
Ability to manage time effectively.
Demonstrated professional appearance.
Physical Demands
Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of twenty-five (25) pounds without assistance
Category 2 : Job classification is not exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties
Work Environment
Normally works in climate-controlled environment, with shared time between kitchen, classroom, and office settings.
Variety of movement to include; sitting, standing, bending, walking, and light lifting.
Use of chef knives, oven, stove-top, blender, microwave, and other various kitchen utensils.
Use of keyboard with repetitive motion of hands, wrist and fingers.
Position requires compliance with department specific competencies.
