WHAT OUR TEAM DOES WITHIN THE ACADEMY

Adult Protective Services Workforce Innovations (APSWI) is a workforce development and training program serving Adult Protective Services (APS) programs throughout six counties : Los Angeles, Riverside, Orange, San Bernardino, San Diego and Imperial.

In partnership with subject matter experts (SMEs), state and national organizations, we develop and deliver learning experiences to revolutionize APS programs to empower professionals and those they serve to live safely, peacefully, and in a world that is free from abuse and neglect.

The content, design, and delivery of our services are intended to provide participants with the knowledge, skills, and values of the best in adult protective services practice and research with the ultimate goal that older adults and adults with disabilities receive high quality, effective interventions and services provided from those who they are served by.

YOUR ROLE IN REVOLUTIONIZING THE WAY PEOPLE WORK

The Workforce Development Specialist will develop and oversee the development of workforce training and curriculum development that meets the needs of Adult Protective Services (APS) stakeholders.

THE WORK YOU WILL DO

You will be responsible for :

  • Identifying APS curriculum and workforce development needs
  • Identifying, recruiting and developing scopes of work with subject matter experts / service providers, curricula developers and facilitators
  • Piloting, evaluating and implementing workforce development materials and curriculum in a variety of modalities
  • Developing and maintaining strong, positive, collaborative working relationships with county, regional, state and national stakeholders
  • Maintaining current workforce development training materials, making modifications as indicated by curriculum advisory committee(s), APSWI Workforce Development Supervisor and stakeholders
  • Creating, convening and facilitating workgroups and meetings with stakeholders to ensure effective coordination and collaboration

HOW WE ACCOMPLISH OUR WORK

This is a 40-hour-a-week, full-time position, working M-F from 8 : 00 to 4 : 30 p.m., based on contract funding subject to annual renewal and requires you to live in California.

The position is subject to intermittent overnight travel and work shifts outside normal business hours, including weekends and evenings.

This position is based in California is a hybrid position with the flexibility to be fully remote, fully office-based or a hybrid of the two.

Note : some duties may include working with and / or exposure to sensitive / traumatic topics or material dealing with child abuse, abuse of older adults and adults with disabilities, and / or issues and scenarios related to mental health, substance use, or racism.

The Academy is a project of the San Diego State University Research Foundation, which is grant-funded and serves as an auxiliary to the University.

The Academy is based near, but not on campus, and does not have direct responsibilities for working with or teaching college students.

The Academy is currently working to update employee classifications. This position may be subject to a future classification change, however, this does not change the role, responsibilities, or compensation of the position.

THE SKILLS NEEDED

You will thrive in the position if you :

  • Have knowledge of adult learning theory concepts and current workforce development trends
  • Are able to develop curricula in a variety of modalities
  • Are skilled in effectively managing multiple projects and priorities
  • Are able to effectively handle interpersonal interactions at all levels of the organization
  • Enjoy and are able to interact effectively with co-workers, stakeholders, training / workshop attendees and other external customers
  • Ability to display organization, to set and to meet deadlines

Minimum Qualifications (MQs)

Required Education

  • Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field
  • Additional experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-by-year basis

Required Experience

  • Three years of previous experience relating to the program / project management
  • One year of experience leading or coordinating a program within the industry and / or supervising employees

A master’s degree may be substituted for years of experience, up to 2 years)

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE THAT WOULD BE NICE IF YOU HAVE

  • Two (2) years of experience training and developing workforce development curriculum
  • Experience leading collaboratives with local, regional, state and national level APS and / or aging program stakeholders
  • Experience working in health services, human services or social services for a public agency (example : state or county health and / or human services agency)
  • Fluency in using Microsoft Office packages and Google Suite for report preparation, curriculum development, presentation designs, and other work products as needed
  • Master's degree in Social Work or a related field
  • Experience working in a public adult protective services program
  • Experience planning and coordinating projects and deliverables
  • Knowledge of current and emerging adult protective services initiatives and issues
  • Progressively responsible experience in managing projects
