Inspector, Analyzer (LOP)PBF Energy Inc. (NYSE : PBF) is one of the largest independent refiners in North America, operating, through its subsidiaries, oil refineries and related facilities.

We have an opportunity at our Martinez Refinery in California and are seeking a talented Inspector, Analyzer to join our team as a pivotal member that would play a key role here at PBF Energy.

The Inspector, Analyzer provides technical and maintenance support for refinery analyzers used for continuous process indications and environmental monitoring.

The successful candidate will help identify analyzer failure causes to improve equipment reliability and reduce maintenance costs.

As a member of the Technical organization, the Inspector works closely with Control System Engineers and advises and supports Technicians in the Maintenance organization on complex and specialty repairs.

Job Responsibilities May Include :

  • First point of contact for Operations & crafts when technical questions or issues with analyzers arise
  • Troubleshoot analyzer and sample system problems to understand probable cause of failure and develop solutions to reduce recurrence
  • Communicate findings and status on analyzer issues to customers in Operations, Environmental Affairs, Technical and Maintenance groups
  • Analyze repeat failures to determine adjustments to repair procedures and recommend equipment changes to improve reliability
  • Specify new and replacement analyzer systems
  • Develop turnaround work plans and provide work justifications
  • Maintain documentation including loop drawings, schematics, P&IDs, equipment files, maintenance work instructions and procedures
  • Participate in formal Safety Instrument Function testing
  • Provide technical training to operators and technicians
  • Assist with technical reviews and construction quality assurance on capital and maintenance projects
  • As-needed coverage for Inspector and Team Leader for the Instrument / Analyzer Technicians

Position Specific Requirements :

  • Work Schedule : Respond to unit emergencies in off hours for analyzer troubleshooting and repairsParticipate in refinery on-call Instrument / Analyzer Team duty rotation schedule for off-hours support
  • Physical Requirements : Walk up and down stepsClimb ladders up to 250 feet in heightLift a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Work in the Following Conditions : Work at heightsWork in compact and confined spacesWork outside in inclement weather
  • Mix of computer-based office work and field inspection and testing in refinery plant units
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License
  • Candidate must have active TWIC card or be able to obtain a TWIC card. Information can be found at

Minimum Qualifications :

  • 5 years of experience as a process analyzer technician in an industrial setting
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Additional years of experience as analyzer technician or inspector preferred
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Strong practical experience in a variety of common industrial analytical measurement applications
  • Technical work experience in a refinery or petrochemical plant
  • Working knowledge of Honeywell Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software
  • Experience with SAP software

The salary range for this position is $88,424.81 - $156,910.67. The compensation range listed in this posting is in compliance with applicable state law.

Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education / training, job-related skills and internal peer equity will be considered in determining the selected candidate’s compensation.
