Job Summary : Under the direction and supervision of the Laboratory Director, coordinates and manages all aspects of the laboratory in the absence of the Laboratory Director.
Maintains staffing in order to assure competent completion of laboratory testing. Assists in interviews, evaluations, and corrective action.
Fulfills the job duties of staff technologist and lab assistants.
Job Responsibilities :
1. Coordinates and manages all aspects of the laboratory in the absence of the Laboratory Director.
2. Maintains staffing in order to assure competent completion of laboratory testing.
3. Demonstrates supervisor responsibilities and skills.
4. Assists lab section heads (chemistry, hematology, transfusion services, and LIS) in performing their section head job description.
5. Represents department in a professional manner.
6. Works 50% of their time at the bench and 50% of their time with management tasks.
7. Educates staff on updates and changes to procedures and materials for proper charging.
8. Conducts departmental rounding.
9. Assists in hiring and maintaining staff.
10. Revewing policies and procedures.
11. Attending meetings as needed.
12. Conduct departmental staff huddles.

Education Requirements and Other Requirements :
Education Level :
Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or equivalent required.
Certification / Licensure :
MT(ASCP) or equivalent
Experience Requirements :
Minimum five years experience as a Medical Technologist in a hospital laboratory.
Experience in various computer applications including Windows, NT.
Working Conditions : Exposure Category I : Tasks that involve exposure to blood , body fluids, or tissues. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashes of them, are Category I tasks.
Use of appropriate protective measures should be required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
