ROLE : The position uses hand-welding or flame-cutting equipment to weld or join metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Experience with and knowledge of proper clamping, holding, heat-bending, grinding, bolting and tack welding of weld components to obtain required configuration and positions for welding.
- Operate manual GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) machines as well as there care, maintenance, and trouble shooting.
- Operate Semi-Automatic GTAW welding equipment.
- Operate using their experience with or knowledge of safe GTAW welding practices.
- Weld sheet metal in the flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead position.
- Inspects work upon completion for any defects to comply with written specifications.
- Perform layout operations, develop fixtures and select optimum welding processes.
- Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools.
- Understanding of weld schedules and weld symbols.
- Utilize standard shop hand tools and measuring equipment such as, wrenches, pliers, straightedges, combination squares, scale rules, calipers, micrometers etc.
- Monitor the fitting, heating, and welding procedures to avoid overheating or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of weld components.
Requirements
EDUCATION :
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
EXPERIENCE :
Minimum of 5 years welding experience performing GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) on a variety of aerospace materials such as austenitic, martensitic, and precipitation hardened stainless steels, nickel-based steels, aluminum, and titanium.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS : Preference for NADCAP certification for aerospace welding, specifically the welding of sheet metal in the flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead position.
Welder candidate should have experience with or knowledge of AWS D17.1-Specifications for Fusion Welding for Aerospace Applications.
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES :
Language : Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing
Mathematical Skills : Ability to use basic shop math. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
Reasoning Abilities : Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
Special Skills and Abilities : Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, squat, use hands to finger, handle or feel;
reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The Team Member must occasionally lift and / or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
May work with toxic or caustic chemicals
WORK ENVIRONMENT :
While performing the duties of this job, the associate is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; toxic or caustic chemicals;
and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
