Chinese Mutual Aid Association (CMAA) is seeking an experienced and passionate Lion Dance Instructor and Coach to lead and manage our Lion Dance program, an offering of CMAA’s after-school and summer camp program, Diverse Young Leaders.
The successful candidate will be responsible for instructing, coaching, choreographing, and supporting performance opportunities for CMAA’s Lion Dance Club.
This role requires strong communication skills, excellent leadership abilities, and the ability to work with diverse groups of students.
Essential Functions :
- Instruct and lead students participating in Lion Dance Club during after-school and summer camp programming hours.
- Plan, develop, and implement lesson plans, choreography, and performance routines.
- Provide individualized coaching to students to help them improve their skills and technique. Adjust coaching style and instruction based on student age.
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment that is supportive and motivating for all students.
- Collaborate with program staff to plan and coordinate club activities.
- Manage club resources and equipment, ensuring they are used and maintained in a safe and effective manner.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians, keeping them informed of club activities and student progress.
- Attend training sessions and professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date with teaching techniques and lion dance traditions.
Requirements
Qualifications :
- Strong knowledge and experience in Lion Dance, potentially through high school or college programs, including experience in choreography and performance.
- Ability to instruct, mentor, and lead a diverse group of students of different ages, backgrounds, and skill levels.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
- Passionate about mentoring and supporting youth to achieve their potential.
- Ability to work in a team environment, collaborating with other instructors and program staff.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
