Job Title Disability Support Services Lab Assistant - On-Call (Fall 2024) Job Summary
We have an immediate opening for a Disability Support Services (DSS) Lab Assistant for the 2024 Fall semester. This is an important position dedicated to providing critical assistance to students with disabilities during the practical, laboratory and / or hands-on courses in their academic program.
This role is primarily focused on facilitating the physical aspects of Biology laboratory experiments and tasks that the DSS student is not able to fully perform independently.
The DSS Lab Assistant works closely with the student to ensure that all lab activities are executed in a safe, effective, and supportive manner, adhering to both academic and safety protocols.
The hours for this on-call position (Fall 2024) will be Thursdays, 12 : 00-3 : 00pm, from 8 / 26 / 24-12 / 15 / 24 (with some additional meetings and training required).
Job Duties
- Under the directive of the DSS student and following the instructor's guidance, carry out specific course related physical activities, taking care to not deviate from the directives given by the student.
- Prepare materials and equipment needed for lab sessions.
- Assist in finding and utilizing supplementary materials that support the lab objectives.
- Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of lab equipment, adhering to safety and environmental standards.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Demonstrates calmness and patience in all interactions.
- Keen attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional listening abilities.
- Proficient in operating laboratory equipment under the direction of the DSS student.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities.
- Familiarity with the operational aspects of an academic laboratory.
- Understanding of the Biology subject matter is a plus.

Office Environment : This role may involve being in a stationary position in front of a computer, using a keyboard, mouse (or applicable equipment) and telephone.

Noise Level : The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
