Network Operations Engineer
Location : Torrance, CA ( Hybrid of onsite and remote work. After initial training Engineer would only be required to come to the Torrance campus for hardware replacement, troubleshooting campus issue, lease replacements, meetings and project activity which averages about two days / week).
Note - Candidates must live within a one hour or less driving distance to Torrance, CA and need to be able to come into the office when requested at short notice due to Service Level Agreements with customers.
Duration : 12 months with strong possibility of an extension.
On Call Support is Required On call shift is rotated. This is a 7-person rotation and the on call period is one week (once every 7 weeks), Monday - Sunday.
The on call person supports critical network incidents and network alerts that come in between 6 pm and 4 am Pacific Time weekdays, and 24 hours over the weekend.
This position is 100% operational support with minimal security support. Breakdown of the focus of this position includes the following :
30% will be focused on engineering tasks for support and documentation of solutions and services
20% will be focused on supporting the collaborative engineering style of research and mapping new services and solution from projects to transition to Operational Support Teams
50% will be focused on Service Transition work to improve Network Security and Operational Service Delivery
Responsibilities will include :
Will be working with a team of 3-6 NW Operations Engineers
Provide site support for Torrance, CA campus
Provide daily support of regional network comprised of 80+ locations
Provided Data Center Data Hall Floor support
Log file review, general network health analysis
Analyze and monitor the performance of the network using monitoring tools (SolarWinds NPM, NCM, IPAM, Net Flow, Ping Plotter, MIB, OID)
Respond to network outages and work with vendors to ensure smooth operation and troubleshooting
Troubleshoot issue resolution of LAN / WAN environment (both prime shifts and after hours on-call support)
Perform Incident, Problem, Configuration and Change management
Focus on project work such as design, ordering equipment, configuring new equipment, lease replacement
Monitor networking systems, networking devices, and custom-built tools to meet 100% SLA uptime standards
Provide customer support , testing network connections, equipment installation and tune-up and remote hands assistance
Handle second level troubleshooting issues, upgrading operating systems, and planning layout for configuration systems
Schedule and perform maintenance and system upgrades of network infrastructure
Assist Network Engineering in areas of design and configuration of switches, routers, and firewalls. Knowledge, skills, abilities, traits, certifications, years of experience, to successfully perform job function
Required Skills and Expertise :
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
Minimum of 5 years of experience serving Network Engineering / Analyst in the technology to be supported under Network Services Operations and troubleshooting support
Must have 80% of the following skills / expertise :
Strong background working with Layer 2, Layer 3 and Layer 4 technologies, Cisco ACI, Cisco Client, and SDWAN -
Strong background working with wireless 802.11 environments, Security (IPS / IDS,NAC, VPN) Solutions and provisioning voice data circuits -
Strong background in Layer 2, Layer 3 and Layer 4 technologies -
Must have knowledge and experience with the following :
Cisco routing and switching
Troubleshooting carriers
Solid understanding of DHCP, DNS, public key infrastructure, RADIUS, TACACS -
Strong background in Layer 2, Layer 3 and Layer 4 technologies and the ability to work as a team to maintain infrastructure stability
Ability to coordinate multiple vendors to support work required at remote sites
Work history of supporting data center floor operations
Operational understand of SD-WAN technology and solutions
Experience with support and service delivery of SD-WAN vendor like Palo Alto Prisma SD-WAN, Cisco Meraki, Cloudgenix, et c.
Proficient PC Skills (MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other technical software)
Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills required
Desired Skills and Expertise :
Cisco certification is a plus (CCNA, CCNP, etc.)
F5 Load Balancing experience is a plus
Cisco ACI experience is a plus
Experience working with Palo Alto firewalls (for troubleshooting issues)
