POSITION OVERVIEW
The District ESS / 504 Nurse is responsible for the completions of all health evaluations required
under Nevada law in the determination of qualification for Special Education and the
administration of medical 504 plans.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

primary accountabilities listed below. Specific tasks, responsibilities or competencies may be
documented in the incumbent’s performance objectives as outlined by the incumbent’s
immediate supervisor or manager.
- Provides professional expertise in the fields of Nursing and School Health
- Consults with campus leadership and ESS Coordinator / teachers to determine campus ESS / 504 compliance needs.
- Complete the health evaluations need for ESS qualification / re-evaluations.
- Attend all required meeting for ESS (MET, MET2, IEP)
- Attend all meeting required for the formation of a medical 504 plan, amendments and yearly review of existing 504 plans.
- If time allows, assist with state compliance items such as vision and hearing screens, vaccination records, health screenings, etc.
- In the event of a short term absence, serve as a backup for the Health Assistant at one of our three campuses.
- Conducts visits to campuses on a rotating basis. Conferences with ESS staff, review observe ESS students if needed to check for progress and to provides expertise on all health / medical topics and health policies / procedures related to their IEP.
- Designs topic-specific training for all Legacy schools annually.
- Performs other related duties as required by supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Education, Licensure, or Certification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)
- Current Registered Nurse licensure (RN) from the Nevada State Board of Nursing
- Current CPR / AED required
- First Aid Certification preferred
- Nevada Department of Education license with School Nurse Endorsement (or eligibility to receive it within one year of hire)
- MS in Nursing (MSN) in lieu of School Nurse certification Work Experience or Related Experience
- At least 3 years of School Health experience

The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check
PHYSICAL AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Travel between campuses is required 20-60% of the time.
- Valid driver’s license in assigned state.
- This position requires the need to lift objects (up to 25 pounds) on occasion.
- This position may require sitting for long periods at times, talking on the phone, standing, kneeling, stooping and long periods of concentration.
- Local and in-state travel required.
