Reports To : Financial Analyst / Accountant

Position Type : Part-time (20 hours per week), Hybrid (Based at NYC Regional HQ Office)

Summary :

Malteser International Americas is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Junior Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of accounting principles, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

This role will support the accounting department by ensuring the accuracy of financial records and compliance with relevant regulations.

Responsibilities :

• Process all aspects of day-to-day bookkeeping activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, and bank reconciliations
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data by reviewing and reconciling accounts, transactions, and balances
• Maintain organized and up-to-date financial records and documentation for audits and compliance purposes
• Maintain all supporting documents and worksheets organized pertaining to journal entries and transactions completed
• Prepare annual 1099s to contractors
• Assist in the preparation of financial statements, reports, and budgets as needed
• Assist with audit preparations and reconciliations
• Collaborate with the accounting team to support month-end and year-end close processes
• Support the assistance to other departments as needed regarding financial inquiries and reporting
• Support to achieve compliance with nonprofit accounting policies, procedures, and controls

Requirements :

• BA / BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or minimum of two years of work experience in accounting
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
• Extensive knowledge of Quick Books Online
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
• Experience working in a non-profit sector a plus
• Spanish language skills a plus
